Pupils taking part in S1/S2 Literacy Groups attend 1 period per week with a Pupil Support teacher for the full academic year. These groups support pupils to build their skills and confidence in all areas of literacy, with a particular focus on reading, comprehension, vocabulary-building and spelling. Pupils learn through a variety of resources including books/eBooks, audiobooks and computer-based resources. We also explore the use of technology and programmes to support their learning across the whole school. Pupils work on their devices to develop their skills and confidence in Microsoft applications (GLOW, Teams, Office365 etc.), touch typing, speech to text, Immersive Reader, Borrowbox & Screengrab. The programme is adaptive and pupils have to options to suggest topics to explore. They can also suggest curricular areas that are difficult to manage, allowing us to explore supports that can be used in those areas.
