Witching Words

In October 2026, Melissa, Gavin and Mari-Jane from the Digital Learning Team led learners in this enchanting ‘Witching Words’ festive live interactive lesson.

Pupils imagined potions with the power to change the world, crafting magical recipe poems packed with creative language and imaginative ideas. Using iPads and Apple’s creative tools, they then designed and illustrated their own unique potion bottles, bringing their spellbinding creations to life through digital creativity.

Learners explored key literacy skills including descriptive writing, poetry, vocabulary development and visual communication, before sharing their magical masterpieces to be added our very own Connected Falkirk Cabinet of Curiosity.

Mini Challenge Task

Pupils completed the following mini challenge task as a warm-up to the Live Lesson. Using Mark Up tools, they explored two magical potion shelves filled with enchanting bottles and spellbinding possibilities.

On Shelf One, pupils selected potion bottles with spell names already attached, choosing colours for their potions and adding their own magical symbols and decorations to personalise each creation.

On Shelf Two, pupils used their imagination to invent powerful new spells, deciding what magical powers were hidden inside each bottle and adding their ideas using the Mark Up tools.

This creative challenge encouraged learners to develop their imaginative thinking, storytelling skills and digital creativity while getting ready for the live lesson.

Witching Words Wordbank

Pupils were supported by the Witching Words Word Bank to help inspire their magical potion poems and creative bottle designs. The Word Bank contains a collection of enchanting vocabulary to spark ideas, including powerful verbs, magical adjectives, mysterious ingredients and spellbinding phrases.

Learners used the Word Bank to explore imaginative language, develop descriptive writing and add magical detail to their potion recipes. Whether crafting a spell to spread kindness, create laughter or transform the world, the vocabulary support helped bring their magical ideas to life.
