In order to increase enjoyment of writing, children are allowed to choose their own topics. There are many ways to generate ideas for writing: play, teacher-led discussion, talking with a talk partner or free writing are a few.

Pupils were given a choice of genre and planning formats.  Planning for writing is a vital part of the writing process as plans make visible and organise ideas. Plans are a working document and can always be changed.
