Each child has differences in knowledge and skills and in their strengths and areas of development. This is what is meant by learning difference. Some children have more pronounced differences in how they learn. These learning differences are referred to as Specific Learning Differences. Some children may experience difficulties in reading, writing, spelling or number that would not be expected given their age and other abilities. The significance of these difficulties may vary, may persist or change over time and may affect children of all levels of ability in literacy as well as other domains of learning.<\/p>\n<p>Dyslexia is a Specific Learning Difference. It exists in all cultures and across the range of abilities and socio-economic backgrounds. It is a hereditary, life-long, neurodevelopmental condition. Unidentified, Dyslexia may result in low self-esteem, high stress, atypical behaviour and low achievement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Specific Learning Differences Team<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) Team are part of the Service and School Improvement Team.\u00a0They are based in\u00a0Bothkennar Centre and cover all the schools within Falkirk Council.<\/p>\n<p>We support\u00a0Falkirk Schools in the assessment, intervention and monitoring of pupils with Specific Learning Differences \/ Dyslexia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CPD EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several\u00a0CPD sessions are run throughout the year which cover a range of topics.
