{"id":711,"date":"2020-08-26T16:44:46","date_gmt":"2020-08-26T16:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/NumeracyStrategy\/?p=711"},"modified":"2020-08-26T16:44:46","modified_gmt":"2020-08-26T16:44:46","slug":"recovery-planning-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/NumeracyStrategy\/2020\/08\/26\/recovery-planning-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"Recovery planning and beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had a query from a school last week looking for numeracy diagnostic assessments, intervention programmes, CLPL and any further numeracy support to assist during this term of recovery and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;ve put a few bits and pieces together that I consider to be good practice and good resources.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our own Falkirk Council Pressure points can be used to assess children and take the form of flash cards.\u00a0 The numeracy strategy also gives some ideas for numeracy support.\u00a0 All of this can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland.sharepoint.com\/sites\/FalkirkCouncil\/staff\/RaisingAttainment\/SitePages\/Curriculum.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> through glow.<\/li>\n<li>Education Scotland Numeracy Professional Learning resources can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/education-scotland\/scottish-education-system\/policy-for-scottish-education\/policy-drivers\/cfe-building-from-the-statement-appendix-incl-btc1-5\/curriculum-areas\/numeracy-and-mathematics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/glowblogs\/fvwlric\/category\/numeracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a> takes you to videos for CLPL that the RIC Numeracy lead and PTs created.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themathsfactor.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maths Factor<\/a>\u00a0is offering a free times table check just now which is fun and interactive as well as good.<\/li>\n<li>If practitioners create an account for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgehook.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">knowledgehook.com<\/a>\u00a0 (it\u2019s free) there is a section called the toolkit which has a videos and archives part to it.\u00a0 Within this is a a lot of videos that can be used by practitioners for CLPL on mathematics; you just have to scroll through to find them.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019d also suggest looking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youcubed.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">youcubed<\/a> for resources and CLPL.\u00a0 A lot of this is free also.\u00a0 Good resources here to challenge students in the \u201cweek of inspirational maths\u201d stuff.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncetm.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">This<\/a> site (national centre for excellence in teaching mathematics) is also a great source of materials and CLPL.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019d also recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/whiterosemaths.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">whiterosemaths.com<\/a>.\u00a0 Again they have resources and CLPL and some of this if free.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mathlearningcenter.org\/sites\/default\/files\/pdfs\/LTM_Rekenrek.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.mathlearningcenter.org\/sites\/default\/files\/pdfs\/LTM_Rekenrek.pdf<\/a> This book is a resource for learning and teaching for young children using a rekenrek and has a series of lessons to follow.\u00a0 Using this can quickly show what early level children (and indeed first level children) have difficulty with in early number.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mathlearningcenter.org\/resources\/apps\/number-rack\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.mathlearningcenter.org\/resources\/apps\/number-rack<\/a> Using this site gives you the rekenrek digitally (so could use on whiteboard) and if you scroll down on the page you\u2019ll see the books that are free to download that go with it (includes an activity book for the students).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iseemaths.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I see maths<\/a> has some free resources that helps make learning visible.<\/li>\n<li>Thinking about blended learning as part of recovery planning and contingency plans then take a look at <a href=\"https:\/\/players.brightcove.net\/1740322051001\/default_default\/index.html?videoId=6151577768001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this<\/a> webinar from Graham Fletcher.\u00a0 In it he discusses how he taught maths and engaged with his students during lockdown.
