How storyline supports interdisciplinary learning
Please come back soon and this page will be even more interesting! 🙂
The Storyline Approach or method evolved in the 1960s and 70s from collaborative curriculum development by class teachers and tutors from Jordanhill College of Education. These educators discovered that learning became more engaging and impactful for students when it was framed around a story. They used stories to combine learning in the newly introduced subject areas of social studies and expressive arts. Teachers and early years officers began to use the approach to frame thematic learning. The approach was widely used in Scottish schools and centres until the introduction of the 5-14 curriculum in the 1980s. Globally, it is also known as the Scottish Method and is used in all education sectors including higher education and workplace professional learning.
There is an International Storyline website here and a group of Scottish educators are building a supportive site here also.
