Searching with Qwiki – your talking search presenter

Qwiki is an online search tool which, as soon you enter the word you are searching for, pulls together text, images and video on your chosen search word and presents these as an animated slideshow with narrated text, which it starts to play for you. This provides a multimedia experience for the searcher. The developers described their concept as being akin to that seen in episodes of science-fiction movies where space travellers of the future ask the on-board computer to provide information on a given topic. While the scope of the searches is still growing, and the automated voice has interesting pronunciation of some words (which users are invited to comment on via the site), Qwiki would be a useful tool for starting a presentation on geographical locations or historical characters. The presentation can be paused at any time, a specific slide chosen and associated links followed, or the whole presentation replayed as often as desired. The resultant search presentation can also be embedded online elsewhere.
