http://www.theflip.com/en-gb/ Flip digital cameras are very popular as the video camera of choice in primary classrooms. While they may now no longer be available to purchase, many primary schools will already have these because they are simple to use when recording video. The controls are just what are needed and no more. And with a flick of a slider on the side of the camera the USB connector flips out and can be connected directly to a computer.
The following links to resources are mostly specific to the use of the Flip Video Camera but much can also be applied to any digital video camera.
For alternative video cameras which have similar features to the Flip camera @digitalnative shared a review by Amy-Mae Elliot of 5 Flip video camera alternatives: http://mashable.com/2011/05/06/flip-camera-alternatives/#view_as_one_page-gallery_box1243
Likewise Michael Gorman has compiled reviews of 12 Flip alternatives: http://21centuryedtech.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/12-fabulous-flip-camera-alternatives-for-education-a-must-read/ – as well as including reviews of cameras which have similar features to a Flip camera (such as the USB connection) this list also includes mention of other devices which schools, pupils or staff may have (ordinary cameras and mobile phones) and provides advice about using these.
A Flip-like camera which has features which would make it particularly attractive to schools is Kodak Playsport ZX5.
