Stirling Silver?

It’s been quite quiet in The Valley recently. This is mainly because I have moved to a new one. The pick and shovel have been well and truly packed and relocated.

Early days in my new life in Stirling, but already I can see myself never getting tired of having to drive past this:

Hopefully living in such a great place will enable me to rekindle my outdoor actvities (!?) and healthy lifestyle which seemed to have been driven away into a cave by other alternatives on offer in healthless Glasgow!

inverness

imagine my surprise. i popped up to inverness for a flying visit to bump into a fringe festival! yes. but no, not edinburgh, belladrum! got to see some amazing acts and performers, mostly in Hootanannys (sp?).

Amongst them where the steadfast and sure performance of Calamateur, an old favourite (!) here; newest on my indie-chick list, Mia Riddle, whose quality was spoiling us ambassador… check her out on her uk tour.

A bearded blues guitarist, who must have been at least 60 took everyone my storm, Sea Sick Steve or C-16 as we first thought! But, performance and entertainment wise, Tiny Dancers, complete with head dress were fantastic. Go see! Or at least visit MySpace, well TheirSpace, you know… or see it all here.

Combining the previous…

In a bid to bring some closure to the latest ramblings, I’m combining my love Wales and the rise of quality female singer songwriters. How might one do that I hear you ask? Two words. Cerys Matthews. Yes, she of wild Catatonia fame but now settled down and relaunched as a folk star? Yes, the very same.

About to release album number two. Grab some samples at her(my)space! Soon to be on tour, well worth it. Her voice is very distinctive in a positive way. Singing in Cymraeg does it for me!

Discussions with Brother Phil (he’s on the radioâ„¢) led to a sharing of appreciation of the more quirky type of female musician (and female in general!).

Ceredigion

I’ve just returned from a good holiday in Wales. Spent a couple of days in Aberystwyth. I grew up there, spending a lot of my first 20 years there. I love the place. Every time I return I find the beauty of the place awesome. Maybe it is because I am a ‘local’, but I think it is one of the most beautiful places ever! Perhaps my view would be different if I was from elsewhere, but because I know it, I know the best places – the quiet places – the secret places; I just love returning.

Go see!
