tragedy… when the

eyesights gone – perhaps you shouldn’t go on?

This man, widely regarded as the best referee in the world, in a split second has cost Everton FC probably over £10 million. Wow. I’ve never been one for instant replay (what a song that was though!) or using technology to help, but I felt he had a shocker in the Villareal Everton game.

Big Dunc was just being Big Dunc – getting stuck in, using arms, elbows and heads more than feet. It is a contact sport. Dodgy foreigners rolling all over the place, collapsing at the slightest touch, are spoiling the game. Rant rant.

everybody get loose, footloose

put on your football boots… the season is back with a vengenace. what a glorious time of year. fans are optimists. the playing field is far from level, but we always have hope. we hope not to be humiliated and thrashed. we hope to claw our way above the relegation zone. we love it, even when we’re rubbish. we love it. i love it. playing, watching, talking… the beautiful game. the players provide us with moments of genius, usually followed by acts of stupidity. why is that? but we still come back for more every week!

Are you Lost or incomplete?

…name that tune? So, is Lost (on Channel 4)the new gripping series for us to be newly gripped by? Different than the police focused CSI family, 24, Law and Order etc. Quite a few familiar faces to spot in the series, people from Oz, from 24, from Kingdom Hospital, others and that Lord of the Rings thing you may have heard about.

Got a bit bizarre with a Godzilla mystery creature and Polar Bears on a random island. French voices hint at nuclear testing zone… but there is sufficient groundwork for good story development…

does anyone know anything about either of the books or the authors?

recommendations please…

Dark Star Safari – Paul Theroux
Swahili for the Broken-hearted – Peter Moore

let's be blunt

so james blunt. he’s number one. single and album. but isn’t it rubbish?? if you actually examine the song, he looks at a girl who is hot – who happens to be with her guy – doesn’t talk to her, doesn’t know her name, doesn’t speak to her; and then says he has a plan – but doesn’t know what to do… so she’s beautiful … yes that’s lovely but then so are many girls… get on with it…

why is he number one? there are better singer songwriter types out there – david kitt, tom baxter, even james yorkston to name but a few – but because radio 1 don’t push them, they don’t get into the charts…

have listened to the album, nothing special, but easy to listen to, couple of catchy bits… how do these things happen? where was he before radio 1 – did he do the ground work? maybe he did, maybe he is good, maybe i just don’t like the way it works.

back from reality

back to life, back to reality… just back from another Reality residential. Reality is a fabulous trust who take vulnerable or disadvantaged (still working out the PC terminology) young people away to outdoor centres for breaks; also a break for their family from some of them!

the weeks are always tiring, challenging and rewarding. this year we went to Ardgour, which is over the Corran ferry from Fort William… the highlight was Gorge Walking… which tires, soaks and bruises you, but is such great fun.

the young people were not particuarly wild this year – which actually was disappointing – but they presented a different challenge with their behaviour… all useful learning
