old faces in new places

Last night I went to see this man, with this man, at this place. I’d never been to Dunfermline before. From what I saw of it, the coffee was was ok and the fudge doughnuts were excellent.

Andrew, Gareth and I were all really good, close friends in Inverness. Since then, Gareth has moved to Edinburgh and I live in Glasgow. So, where better to meet up than in Dunfermline!

Andrew, aka Calamateur, now has an accomplice (or band!). He adds so much to the live performance, notably in the confidence and greater stage presence that Andrew displays.

I have seen Calamateur in a random array of places. The Market Bar, Inverness (where The Proclaimers were discovered); The Loft (near Nairn somewhere) supporting The Willard Grant Conspiracy; and at The Glasgow Garage as part of some random Channel 4 event. The songs have grown in maturity and accessibility. Andrew is a fine song writer, mixing story and emotion. Gareth comments: The set was a combination of quiet, delicate songs about hope, interspersed with darker, heavier material about betrayal, revenge and eventually murder!

Plenty of downloads available at the Calamateur website.

Budget airlines fly to all the nations that have been drawn with Wales. Is this a good thing? It’ll encourage a decent away support I guess, and a decent away following when the teams come to Cardiff – the atmosphere needs any help it can get.

The hardcore fans would have loved group A, featuring amongst others, trips to Armenia,
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Those are the trips that you go on for much more than the football! A nightmare for the team I guess, but a great chance to see something different!
