The famous 5?

Or not as the case of “The 5 Pillars of Islam” are in my school! In P6 we have this challenging topic. I was desperate to make this a bit more accessible to my class.

One of the pillars, as you are all well aware, is Hajj – or pilgrimage. I thought it was pushing it to take a school trip to Saudi, but I didn’t need. Why go there when you can be virtual!

Channel 4 have lots. Issued with a whiteboard full of questions to guide, good exploration and journeying was had by all.

think

i guess since the Local Authority has bought (maybe not using hard cash, but definitely with time and resources) into this site in a big way, we’ve started using think.com, lots. It’s a “safe” area for blogging, having polls, creating web pages and emailing. There are a lot of admin settings which mean you can basically block the outside world – defeats part of the point of the World Wide Web, no? But it does provide security, with all messages, postings etc. being able to be back traced to source by anyone with admin rights.

It’s ideal to set up to work with your class, or you can set up a project with a partner school if you have developed links (or been given links) to another school.

Your license fee…

Those boffins over at the BBC website have come with this… Look like your favourite player, download a mask to cut out and wear? Have we reached new levels of stupidity? Strangely enough they have chosen some of the finest looking players out… check out this list:

  • Crouch
  • Gerrard
  • Rooney
  • Ronaldinho
  • Henry
  • Sven
  • Beckham
  • Van Nistelrooy
  • Collina

Hopefully this is a project for the work experience student, rather than someone who actually gets paid… I mean why? Would you really want to look like:

so it begins…

I think I’ve made a bit of progress here.  You can see from the sidebar that we’ve cracked on with getting our flickr and delicious accounts up and activated.

Also set up a class blog over at learnerblogs.  As well as my administrator account the class have their own log on too.  This really helps with security and moderating.  Seems to be working.

The flickr plugin is a great addition to these wp blogs.

Still got a way to go to get anywhere near some of the teacher blogs linked…

Intro

This was originally going to be a space for my class to blog, but I found learnerblogs to be better suited. So, I’m going to take this place over myself and collect my thoughts and record my practices of using ICT in the classroom.

Hopefully…

Quality and Perspective

The addition of quality players to any football team squad is a priority. We’ve added a couple of top players to our team and they have settled in well, with us winning all 7 of our league games so far. Have I mentioned I’ve scored twice so far?

However, West Ham seem to have problems since adding two quality players, including Javier Mascherano, who I identified as one to watch (buy!) at the World Cup.

Man United have added a quality defender, decent centre backs are vital to any team but maybe hard to find. The Serbian Nemanja Vidic took a little while to settle but has been superb, and looks solid. There is plenty of talent amongst the Eastern European players, but sometimes the mentality is a little temperamental.

Luton got gubbed 5-0 at Ipswich, but hopefully both sets of fan will be thinking more of Sol Davis who suffered a stroke on Saturday.

Football. Funny old game as they say. But we love it!
