EMA 13-14 Closed

EMA for this current 13-14 academic year has now closed and no new applications can be accepted.  If you’ve recently applied and had your application returned under query for more information, please provide this as soon as possible.

A request has been placed to remove the 13-14 application forms from the main Falkirk Council website but unfortunately this has not yet been actioned.  Please do not print these forms as they can no longer be used.

Applications for the new 14-15 session should be available from mid-June – further information will be posted here in due course.

EMA Team Monday 17th March

Apologies but there will be limited cover only for EMA enquiries today, Monday 17th March. Please see common queries below –  if you don’t find the answer you need, either email us and we’ll pick up asap or call us from tomorrow.

  • Payment/non-payment – contact your school or Activity Agreement worker first. Check the payment timetable or your handbook.
  • New applications – check the guidance/checklist and send into us as soon as possible, even if incomplete.  As already detailed on the application form, in previous posts and publications, the EMA sessions closes to new applicants on 31st March. No new applications can be accepted after that date.
  • General info & FAQs – see our main page on the Falkirk Council website or our list of FAQs.

Payment Holiday

As detailed in your payment timetable, next week will be the last payment made for this term.  There will be no further payment due until 10th January and that payment will be for attendance for week ended 20th December.

Our usual payment run confirmation should still be updated here next week but there will be a reduced EMA service from Friday 20th December.  The answers to most general queries can be found here, on our main EMA page of the Falkirk Council website or on our Glow group (see our “Links” section on the right hand side).  More detailed queries can be directed to the team week beginning 6th January.

EMA Team hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Severe Weather and your EMA

Weather forecasts expect today’s storm to abate sooner rather than later however here’s another quick reminder for you of the rules in relation to severe weather:

  • Where your school or learning centre is closed and no education is provided, your EMA will be unaffected.
  • Should your school or learning centre be open to you but you or your parent/carer decide that you will not attend, your school or learning centre will make the decision on whether payment is to be made. Any such decision will be made on an individual basis depending on your circumstances but in general:
    • if your school or learning centre is open but you live some distance away and transport is unavailable due to the weather, your school or learning centre may still authorise payment.
    • if transport was available but the decision not to travel has been made by you or your parent/carer, payment may not be made – your school or learning centre will need to consider how fair it is to make payment for someone who has not attended where others may have travelled a similar distance or by a similar method of transport.
    • if you don’t attend because you’re looking after younger siblings also not attending, we would not normally expect payment to be made.

If in doubt, please check with your school or learning centre.

Although we hope that any impact to actual payments (dates, amounts etc) will be kept to an absolute minimum, some changes may be unavoidable. This is because we can only make payment where your school or learning centre have authorised it. If staff are unavailable, payment may be made in part only or delayed. We can’t make extra payments to catch up, but as far as possible all adjustments are made in the next available run.

In adverse weather, keep visiting this blog for further update to your EMA and the Falkirk Council School Closure Information page (click here), which will be regularly updated with school closure and other winter information.

Fortnightly Payment Due

Apologies for the late post – the next fortnightly payment run is complete and should reach accounts tomorrow, Friday 6th December.  This includes payment for fortnight ended 29th November.

As always, if you have a query about the amount received please contact your school or activity agreement worker.

Severe Weather and your EMA

Every effort is made to keep schools and learning centres open but where severe weather means that some closures are unavoidable, it can affect your EMA. In preparation for winter, here’s a quick reminder of the rules:

  • Where your school or learning centre is closed and no education is provided, your EMA will be unaffected.
  • Should your school or learning centre be open to you but you or your parent/carer decide that you will not attend, your school or learning centre will make the decision on whether payment is to be made. Any such decision will be made on an individual basis depending on your circumstances but should take into account how fair it is to make payment for someone who has not attended where others may have travelled a similar distance or by a similar method of transport.

In general:

  • if your school or learning centre is open but you live some distance away and transport is unavailable due to the weather, your school or learning centre may still authorise payment.
  • However, if you don’t attend because you’re looking after younger siblings also not attending, we would not normally expect payment to be made.

If in doubt, please check with your school or learning centre.

Although we hope that any impact to actual payments (dates, amounts etc) will be kept to an absolute minimum, some changes may be unavoidable.
