{"id":2847,"date":"2014-02-18T12:02:55","date_gmt":"2014-02-18T12:02:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/CurriculumSupport\/?p=2847"},"modified":"2014-02-18T12:02:55","modified_gmt":"2014-02-18T12:02:55","slug":"red-book-award-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/CurriculumSupport\/2014\/02\/18\/red-book-award-3\/","title":{"rendered":"RED Book Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/public\/CurriculumSupport\/uploads\/sites\/1906\/2014\/02\/The-blog.jpg\"><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/public\/CurriculumSupport\/uploads\/sites\/1906\/2014\/02\/The-blog1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2852\" title=\"The blog\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/public\/CurriculumSupport\/uploads\/sites\/1906\/2014\/02\/The-blog1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"358\" \/><\/a>Yvonne Manning , Principal Librarian, Service and School Improvement Team of Falkirk Council Education Service led the\u00a08th <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">RED<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Book Award <\/span>ceremony on the 29th January\u00a0 2014\u00a0in the Falkirk Town Hall. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">The shortlist this year was Mortal Chaos by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mattdickinson.com\/\">Matt Dickinson<\/a>, Torn by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmasseybooks.com\/\">David Massey<\/a>, Mister Creecher by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrispriestleybooks.com\/\">Chris Priestley<\/a> and Slated by <a href=\"http:\/\/teriterry.jimdo.com\/\">Teri Terry<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This year there was an international dimension to the Book Award with young people from Nairobi (International School of Kenya and Mathare North Library) shadowing the award. It was very successful and they have renamed their book group The RED Book Club!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">250 pupils from\u00a0 the\u00a0secondary schools in Falkirk Council participated in the Book Award reading, enjoying and debating the shortlisted books. Along with the Kenyan young people, they voted in December for their favourite book and planned a creative interpretation of one of the books\u00a0to be performed at the award ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Award ceremony\u00a0had a wonderful atmosphere thanks to the energy and enthusiasm\u00a0of the young people. The performances showcased the creativity and\u00a0 confidence\u00a0of the young people. We particularly enjoyed the performances from\u00a0Nairobi\u00a0sent to us electronically. At t<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">he ceremony the\u00a0radio broadcast team from St Mungo&#8217;s High School recorded interviews, pupil journalists from Graeme\u00a0and Larbert High Schools\u00a0wrote a news report which will appear in The Falkirk Council News, a film team from Braes High School filmed the event\u00a0and a pupil from Falkirk High School, interested in photography,\u00a0shadowed the council photographer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/public\/CurriculumSupport\/uploads\/sites\/1906\/2014\/02\/Interviewing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2870\" title=\"Interviewing\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/fa\/public\/CurriculumSupport\/uploads\/sites\/1906\/2014\/02\/Interviewing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"336\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">Feedback from the some of the authors:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you so much for everything this week. I had the best time at the RED book awards. I think having the colour red as part of things added such a fun element to the day. We enjoyed our visit to Scotland so much and are looking forward to returning when we have more time.
