Celebrating Learning Across Our School

Our Support for Learning (SfL) department has been a busy and vibrant place this term, with a wide range of meaningful learning experiences taking place across the school. From Foundation, Early and First Level learners with severe and complex needs, to our Junior Phase (S1–3) and Senior Phase classes (S4–6), our learners have shown enthusiasm, resilience and pride in their achievements.

Across SfL, learners have been engaged in carefully planned activities designed to build confidence, independence and essential skills. Our Junior and Senior Phase learners have worked particularly hard in literacy across the levels, demonstrating focus, perseverance and growing confidence in their learning. Early indications suggest that our Senior Phase learners have achieved well in their recent prelim exams—well done to all involved!

The photos shared here capture the breadth of learning experiences within the SfL department. These also include participation in the school wide ‘Christmas Door’ event, with several SfL classroom doors proudly displaying pupils’ hard work and creativity. Well done to everyone who took part.

Our pupils continue to integrate into mainstream subject areas, including Home Economics, PE, Technical and Art. These opportunities allow learners to work alongside their peers, develop practical skills and access the wider curriculum wherever possible.

The recent Careers Convention held in the main hall was well attended, with several of our learners thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to engage with local businesses and take part in the dressing-up activities on offer.

The Courtyard garden area is also developing well, with learners accessing the space when possible and working alongside the Technical Department. Staff and pupils have been busy repairing areas and recycling or repurposing materials where appropriate. This work is further supported by the Community Library, who have generously contributed £2,000 towards the garden’s development.

The 2026 Sgoil Lionacleit was another fantastic piece of work completed by our learners. All the art work produced for the calendar was fantastic, covering many skills, and supported again by our talented members of staff who brought it all together! Many thanks to all who supported our department by buying one!

A particular highlight this term was a wonderful act of creativity and kindness. One of our learners, who has exceptional skills in computer programming, independently designed and coded a bespoke game as a surprise for a fellow learner’s 16th birthday. Created over just two days, the game was thoughtfully tailored for her and played on her birthday, making it a truly special and memorable moment.

As an inclusive mainstream secondary school, we are committed to getting it right for every learner. We work hard to ensure that each young person’s journey through secondary education at whatever level, is positive, supportive and memorable. We are incredibly proud of the progress our learners continue to make.
