Scott P7<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1775 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/536499_s.jpg\" alt=\"536499_s\" width=\"220\" height=\"201\" \/>\u2019s competed in near arctic summer conditions, against a tough group consisting of Point, Laxdale, Back and Shawbost &#8211; they were unfortunate not to progress to the finals but they showed good team spirit throughout the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks to the members of staff who accompanied the teams to the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0events held in June: Mr I. Nicolson, Miss M Macleod and Mrs F A Morrison<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rural Schools Athletics Championships June 7th 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A team of primary and secondary athletes competed at this annual event and although the weather was unkind on the day, the team displayed a good attitude throughout. We were not overall winners in any of the year groups, although there were some notable performances from individual athletes, namely Christina Macleod ( P6) who was dominant in the 100 and 200m and displayed perfect sprinting technique and strength &#8211; one to watch out for in \u00a0the future.<\/p>\n<p>Peigi McKellar again demonstrated her dominance in the middle distance events and she won her 800m convincingly<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>North of Scotland Schools Championships June 7th 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alisdair Summers was recently defending his title as North of Scotland <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1784 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/542926_s.jpg\" alt=\"542926_s\" width=\"128\" height=\"123\" \/>Schools 100m Champion in Inverness last week. He again produced a strong performance to win in a time of 11.9s. He was also competing in the 400m, although \u00a0not his strongest event, \u00a0he reached the final and was placed 4<sup>th<\/sup> in a time of 55.64s. Alasdair has also been selected to compete at the World Island Games on the Isle of Wight next week and we wish him well at what will be a challenging competition.<\/p>\n<p>Well done Alasdair.<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SES Girls Football Team &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>April 2011<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1789 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/636621_s.jpg\" alt=\"636621_s\" width=\"249\" height=\"187\" \/>The Secondary girls received their new football strips recently, courtesy of\u00a0the &#8216;Fit for Girls&#8217; funding. They are looking forward to the new season and are always looking for new players to join the team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2011 Crossroads Indoor Football Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>The annual Crossroads Football Tournament took place in Leverburgh Primary School on Tuesday the 24th of March with teams from all 4 of the Harris Primary schools competing. \u00a0As ever, the competition was close with some thrilling games of football being played and as was the case last year, from the four qualifying sections, 2 Sir E. Scott teams, a Leverburgh and Scalpay team progressed to the Semi-finals.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Scalpay Rovers met Leverburgh Lightening in the first Semi and it was an exciting game. Leverburgh played very well, However, Scalpay Rovers\u00a0proved too strong for them and they progressed to the final winning 5-0.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The second semi was the SES Tigers against the SES Stars and this was an entertaining game with end to end action. However, after taking the lead 1-0, SES Tigers went on to lose the match 2-1, with two goals from Andrew Morrison.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The final between the SES Stars and Scalpay Rovers was an enthralling and closely fought game with the Stars taking an early lead and capitalised by scoring another two goals to make it 3-0. Scalpay Rovers did manage to get a consolation goal through Daniel Macleod, but was too late for a comeback and lost 3-1.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Playing in the final:<\/div>\n<div>SES Stars: Andrew Morrison, Katherine Morrison and Erin Murray.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Scalpay Rovers: James Morrison, Andrew Morrison and Daniel Macleod.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the running for the \u00a0\u2018Player of the Tournament\u2019 Trophy there were a variety of players from all of the school teams who displayed \u00a0a high level of skill, \u00a0goal scoring ability and fitness throughout the tournament. However, Daniel\u2019s contribution in terms of goal scoring, with an amazing 24 goals in the tournament, as a member of Scalpay Rovers meant that he would be the recipient of the award this year. Well done Daniel!<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Many thanks must go to; \u2018Crossroads\u2019 for sponsoring the tournament, Katie Macleod and Morag Munro for the refreshments and presentation of the tournament prizes. Well done.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Athletics and Cross Country &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>January 2011 Update<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1776 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/536501_s.jpg\" alt=\"536501_s\" width=\"150\" height=\"250\" \/>Peigi Mckellar, S2B,\u00a0was competing at the BUPA Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Champioships on Saturday 8th January.<\/p>\n<p>This race also incorporated the Scottish Inter District Championships, with teams from the North, East and West competing.<\/p>\n<p>Peigi was the top placed runner from the North district team, coming in 5th place overall.<\/p>\n<p>This is an\u00a0excellent performance from Peigi against the best athletes in Scotland.\u00a0 You can view the results from the race here.<\/p>\n<p>Well done Peigi<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Indoor Athletic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Alasdair Summers, S5\u00a0will be competing in the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships\u00a0at the Kelvin Hall on the 9th\/10th Febuary. He will be competing in the 60m and 200m races. Scott pupils competed at the HIghland Schools Swimming Championships in Inverness on Wenesday 10th November.<\/p>\n<p>With an early start of 5.15am it was always going to be long day but the attitude and beahaviour shown by the squad was exemplary and they were a credit to the school.<\/p>\n<p>As this was the Highland regional Champioships the standard of swimming was extremely high and our swimmers also had to contend with completely different surroundings, including a longer pool, the use of starting blocks and official &#8216;Omega&#8217; timing pads.<\/p>\n<p>However, all of the swimmers acquitted themselves well and showed a good standard of technique and fitness in their races and sporting their new &#8216;Harris Swim Club&#8217; tracksuits they certainly looked like a professional squad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks must go to Cammy and Maria for their diligent organisation and supervision throughout and also for not falling asleep themselves whilst I was driving.<\/p>\n<p>The squad\u00a0were:<\/p>\n<p>Samantha, Sade and jamie Martin<\/p>\n<p>Ali Maclennan<\/p>\n<p>Stuart Morrison<\/p>\n<p>Moreen Maclennan<\/p>\n<p>Anna Macleod<\/p>\n<p>Peigi McKellar<\/p>\n<p>Aneeka Toor<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Morrison<\/p>\n<p><strong>_______________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis &amp; Harris 2010 Sportsperson of the Year Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1777 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/541316_s.jpg\" alt=\"541316_s\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/>S5 Pupil, Alisdair Summers picked up the prestigous prize of U18 Sports person of 2010 at the recent Lewis and Harris Sports Council annual awards.<\/p>\n<p>This award is a reflection of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1782 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/es\/sess\/files\/2017\/02\/542925_s.jpg\" alt=\"542925_s\" width=\"85\" height=\"128\" \/>the dedication Alisdair has show in performing at the top level in Athletics both on the island and at regional level.<\/p>\n<p>He is the North of Scotland Schools Champion and the Highlands and Islands Regional Champ at 100m and 200m.
