We attempt to do this by engaging our pupils in rewarding, interesting and enjoyable physical activities. We believe sport\/physical activity enhances the quality of life for all ages and that is our prime purpose.<\/p>\n<p>We are fortunate to have excellent facilities with access to an all-weather floodlit synthetic pitch , fitness gym, games hall, swimming pool and running track. We try to cater for the needs of all our pupils but we cannot achieve the impossible. We need the cooperation of parents and guardians with regard to pupils being prepared with the proper kit etc.<\/p>\n<p>Closely linked to the PE program is an extensive choice of after school clubs and, whatever the level of ability, pupils are encouraged to attend for the main purpose of enjoyment and physical and mental health.<\/p>\n<p>There are three main policies that pupils and parents should be aware of;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicolsoninstitute.org\/index.php\/component\/content\/article\/2-news\/382-physical-education-department-kit-policy\">The PE Department Kit Policy<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicolsoninstitute.org\/index.php\/component\/content\/article\/2-news\/381-physical-education-department-expectations-for-pupils\">The PE Department Expectations for Pupils Policy<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicolsoninstitute.org\/index.php\/component\/content\/article\/20-parent-info\/380-the-nicolson-institute-pe-department-pupil-participation-policy\">The PE Department Pupil Participation Policy<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Courses Offered in the Department<\/h4>\n<p>From\u00a0<strong>S1<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>S4<\/strong>\u00a0all pupils receive 2 periods per week (50 minutes) of &#8220;core&#8221; PE.<\/p>\n<p>Those who wish to specialise have the opportunity to take a National 4 or 5 course in PE in\u00a0<strong>S3<\/strong>\u00a0for a further 3 periods, in\u00a0<strong>S4<\/strong>\u00a0this increases to 4 periods per week.<\/p>\n<p>Also in\u00a0<strong>S5\/6<\/strong>, qualifications at National 4, 5 and Higher Grade are on offer for those intending to follow a &#8216;sporting&#8217; career. \u00a0Pupils in\u00a0<strong>S5\/6<\/strong>\u00a0have the opportunity to pick Sport and Recreation which is a skills for work course at National 5. \u00a0All<strong>\u00a0S5<\/strong>\u00a0pupils\u00a0receive 1 period of &#8220;core&#8221; PE per week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>S6<\/strong>\u00a0pupils have the opportunity to opt in to 1 period of &#8220;core&#8221; PE per week.<\/p>\n<div id=\"vidyowebrtcscreenshare_is_installed\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction to the Department We are concerned with education of the physical and education through the physical.
