The <strong><em>\u2018Reading for <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Gold\u2019 programme (S1)\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Level Up competitions (S2)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>encourage students to read and to record their own personal reading in their reading booklets. Also, the programme encourages the students to share their experiences with their parents\/guardians.<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><strong>There are four award categories:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bronze \u2013 4 books\/stories<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Silver \u2013 8 books\/stories<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Gold \u2013 12 books\/stories<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Platinum \u2013 achieve reading challenge set by class teacher and agreed with students<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any student who achieves a gold award will have an opportunity to attend a reward cinema trip in May.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/public\/wwhdepartmentenglish\/uploads\/sites\/1753\/2018\/01\/Reading-for-Gold-Booklet-16-17.docx\">Reading for Gold Booklet <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creative Writing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The S1\/2 Creative Writing Club meet every Monday lunchtime to gnerate and work on ideas together. They enter a range of local and national competitions like these regularly updated events from the Scottish Book Trust.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishbooktrust.com\/teen\">Scottish Book Trust Competitions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the year, the pupils&#8217; best work is included in an anthology which you can read by clicking below<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year, some members of the group have already entered the Young Walter Scott competition for historical fiction. These competitions are run by local groups such as the Rotary Club and offer students an opportunity to improve their self-confidence and oratory skills.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>All Things Fiction Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This club offers an opportunity for pupils in S3-S5 with a passion for fiction to get together and discuss the stories they love and even write some of their own.
