Achievement

Reading Challenges

As part of the first and second year courses, student’s achievement in their personal reading is being recognised. The ‘Reading for Gold’ programme (S1) and Level Up competitions (S2) encourage students to read and to record their own personal reading in their reading booklets. Also, the programme encourages the students to share their experiences with their parents/guardians.

There are four award categories:

  • Bronze – 4 books/stories
  • Silver – 8 books/stories
  • Gold – 12 books/stories
  • Platinum – achieve reading challenge set by class teacher and agreed with students

Any student who achieves a gold award will have an opportunity to attend a reward cinema trip in May.

Public Speaking

Students in the department can get involved in a range of individual or team public speaking competitions. These competitions are run by local groups such as the Rotary Club and offer students an opportunity to improve their self-confidence and oratory skills.

All Things Fiction Club

This club offers an opportunity for pupils in S3-S5 with a passion for fiction to get together and discuss the stories they love and even write some of their own. It is pupil run, offering S6 pupil Catriona an excellent opportunity to show and develop her leadership skills.
