Higher and Advanced Higher Drama enjoyed a fantastic trip to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. They saw a variety of shows and experienced a range of contemporary performance styles. The day started with ‘WHITE’, a gig theatre performance by performer Koko Brown who has been nominated for an Amnesty Award for her honest autobiographical piece about racial identity. ‘Propeller’ was next, performed by the Scottish Drama Training Network, this play explored teenage activism in our social media obsessed world. Higher then saw ‘Class’, an intelligent tragi-comedy about the dynamics of a parent-teacher meeting in a working class Irish school. This play explored issues of divorce, education, elitism and gender roles in society. Finally, Advanced Higher were brave enough to see ‘Trainspotting Live!’, an in-yer-face retelling of Irvine Welsh’s contemporary classic about addiction problems in 1980s Edinburgh.
