Friday 12th May

Apologies for no website update last week, we hope everyone had a great long weekend.
Congratulations and well done to the seniors who continue to study hard and complete N5, Higher and Advanced Higher exams. We all know how hard you have worked and the effort you are putting in, well done.

Last week the National Autistic Society and Mrs Henderson donated a very special gift to us – a new ‘pet’ for the CSS pupils and staff. Miss Taylor’s S1 class excitedly met our visitors and collected our robotic gift. Here is Mitchell unwrapping the surprise.

And some more photos of the group.

Well done to Ruth for helping Miss Paterson embroider this Hermione badge on to Ruth’s bag.

Ruth and Mark constructed a shelter during their outdoor learning time. Here they are with the shelter.

We had one big birthday this week; Josh turned 18 on Thursday. Happy birthday, Josh!

Friday 28th April

SQA exams started this week. Well done Lewis, Kaiden, Jayden, Aaron and Thomas who made it through the first week. It looks like the boys all feel they did ok. Keep up the good work and studying for the forthcoming assessments. It will all be worth it in the end!
As promised, here are photos from the S6 leavers trip last Friday.

Ruth and Mark joined the S3 class for some lifeskills cookery at BHS on Monday. We made thumbprint biscuits. The recipe didn’t exactly go to plan, but the biscuits still tasted great and would be fine with some ice-cream! Isn’t everything?

Sharon and Miss Jamieson made bird feeders as part of Environmental Science. They recycled old water bottles and pencils. What a great idea.

Finally, Eleanor celebrated her birthday this week. Happy birthday Eleanor!

Friday 21st April

I hope everyone had a brilliant Easter holiday and finally enjoyed some sunshine!
It was lovely to see everyone back this week. There is lots of news and photos to share.
At the end of term the S1 class created persuasive adverts for Miss Macdonald. An Art teacher judged the competition and thought all the adverts were great. They showed great neatness, humour, artistic skill and carefully thought wording. But there had to be one winner! This was Evan. His design won for being the most eye catching.

Casper and Aaron enjoyed being back, doing some lifeskills baking on Thursday. This helps towards their Duke of Edinburgh Skills module. They made scones. Casper even attempted to make one in the shape of Bowser!

Miss Roberts made the most of the dry weather to take the S1/2 class outside to see how far their rockets would fly.

Sharon (S6) was also outside, testing the wind as part of Environmental Studies.

Evan has been practising very hard in music. Here he is, captured on video:

Can we take this opportunity to wish all pupils, staff and friends of the service a Happy Eid, if they are celebrating today.

And finally, today marks the official end of the year for the S6 pupils. After six years of teaching, supporting and getting to know you all we are all so proud of your achievements. We all have so many memories of your time at Williamwood and can’t believe it is coming to an end. We hope you enjoy your last official day, wish you all the luck for the exams and the future, hope you stay in touch and know you will be successful whatever your future path. We are glad many of you are staying on until the rest of the school leaves at the end of June.

Hopefully I will be able to post pictures of the last day activities later!

Friday 31st March: The end of term

Congratulations, we have made it to the end of another busy term.
This week we have lots of photos to share with you.
A number of pupils have signed up for Duke of Edinburgh, which we will begin next term and continue in 2023-24. Aaron and Casper did some activities for their skills section at Barrhead High School this week. The pair made biscuit cake as part of their lifeskills cooking and baking class.

Archie really enjoyed finding out about special effect make-up in drama. Here he is with some very convincing wounds.

Miss Jamieson and the S1/S2 art class were able to finally get outside and enjoy some sunny weather this week. They were looking at reflections as part of their class and took some very impressive photographs as I’m sure you will agree.

Ruth and Mark designed eggs to wish those celebrating a happy Easter.

Mr Dykes class have been studying persuasive language and advertising with Miss Macdonald on a Wednesday. They created adverts for a new product with their posters judged as a competition. The winner was…

Some of our senior pupils are now preparing for N5, Higher and AH exams, which begin in May. We would like to remind them that study materials will be available from their teachers, on Google Classroom, and across websites such as BBC Bitesize. The holidays provide a good opportunity to do some study and revision, but please also make sure you take time to relax and enjoy a little break. Find a balance between study and switching off.

And finally, can we wish every pupil, their families and friends of the CSS, a very, very happy holiday and a very, very happy Easter if you are celebrating. Relax and enjoy the fortnight’s break. We look forward to seeing everyone again for term three, on Monday 17th April.

Friday 24th March

Lots has gone on this week.

Very soon some of our S3-S6 pupils will begin working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh with Miss Jamieson, Miss Norman and Miss Macdonald. Some of the pupils have already started working towards this through their litter picking, class volunteering and FTT at Barrhead.

Mark (S4) passed his National 2 English and Communication course, well done Mark!

The S1 class made some fabulous model helmets with Miss Christo and Miss Spence, based on ancient Greece. We need to get some photos to show them off!

Today is Casper’s 17th birthday. Happy birthday, Casper!

One more week of term, before the Easter holidays. Let’s hope we have lots of photos to share with you next Friday.

Friday 17th March

This week was another busy week with pupils hard at work across the school. Pupils in S2, S4 and S5 are picking their options for the year ahead over the next few weeks.

Today is Comic Relief and Culture Day. Pupils came dressed in their own clothes and there were opportunities to buy foods from other cultures and around the world. Photos will follow soon.

Friday 10th March

This has been another busy, successful week. Only three to go until the Easter holidays!

Congratulations to Mark (S4) who passed his National 2 English and Communication Creating Texts assessment. This was all based on The Jungle Book, which we have been studying.

Finally, Casper continues to have fun on his college course. Here he is after his successful travels to Hollywood Bowl at the Quay in Glasgow.

Friday 3rd March

It is March already – welcome to Spring!
This week everyone has coped really well with the two extra days of no school in the middle of the week.
Thursday was S4 Parents’ Evening. It was nice to see parents in person again and share all our positive news.

Sharon (S6) was delighted to be able to study a book she has recently bought and brought from home. She is going to work through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Miss Jamieson in English.

Some of the senior pupils are involved in developing a health and wellbeing programme based on the homonculi approach, which we started last year as a short, ten week project. They are the ‘guinea pigs’ for a longer course. Today they begun creating characters that are in their heads and can support them when issues, problems and fears arise.

Congratulations to Jaydin, S6, who heard this week he has an unconditional offer to study science at college. Brilliant news, Jaydin.

Friday 24th February

This week we have lots of news and photos to share.
The S3 pupils continue to support the school and local area by litter picking. We are so grateful for their efforts and contribution to the school community and proud they are being recognised for this through, for example, Saltire Awards. Here are so photos of them hard at work. We do hope some day they will not need to do this at all!

Congratulations to Ruth (S4) who received a Music badge at assembly this week. She was presented with the badge for her contributions at Ukulele Club on a Wednesday lunchtime.

Some of our seniors were able to make the most of the late winter sun during health and wellbeing lessons today. Spring is almost here!

Casper continues to have fun at college on a Tuesday afternoon and went bowling as part of his course this week.

Finally, happy birthday to Lewis (S1), who turned 12 on Wednesday this week. We hope you had a lovely day.

Friday 17th February

This has been a very short week because we were on holiday on Monday and Tuesday. I hope everyone had a lovely time.
Sharon was kind enough to make some heart shaped stickers which she gave out on Wednesday as a late Valentine’s gift. Here she is with her stickers.

Last night was parents’ evening for S5 and S6. It was lovely to see so many parents come along, and for staff to discuss progress and achievements.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and look forward to a full week on Monday.
