Introduction

Within Business Education we aim to empower students with knowledge of how businesses operate and succeed in today’s external environment.  Equipping them with skills and knowledge of how businesses respond to the ever changing global environment.

Pupils will develop knowledge and skills in Operations, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Understanding Business. Undertaking these five sub topics will allow pupils to develop an understanding of how businesses succeed today in an ever changing global economy.

Curriculum

Broad General Education

Pupils will be introduced to key Business Management concepts in S1 / S2.

In S1 pupils will gain essential business knowledge, including an understanding of needs and wants, goods and services, importance of market research and the role of ethical business practices. 

Within S1 and S2 pupils will be engaged through creative and dynamic teaching methods, and will be able to demonstrate their understanding through various activities and team projects.

In S3 you will specialise in Business Management. You will continue to develop an understanding of the five topic areas; Operations, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Understanding Business.

Senior Phase

N5 Business and Higher Business

At N5 and Higher level you will continue to develop your knowledge and understanding of the five functional areas of Business. Pupils will also develop their research and report writing skills whilst undertaking a course assignment which is worth 25% of their overall grade. Pupils will research a business of their choice, analyse information and provided conclusions and recommendations for the future for their chosen business.

Advanced Business

 The course prepares pupils to play an active part in Scotland’s vibrant and innovative business culture, by equipping them with an understanding of the local, national, and global nature of business. This includes analysing the challenges globalisation presents to Scottish businesses and the business environment.

Pupils will develop analytical and research skills by investigating real organisations in a range of contexts. Pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of 3 key topic areas; The external business environment, the internal business environment and evaluating business information. Pupils will also undertake a course assignment producing a report on a multinational organisation of their choice, this report is worth up to 33% of their overall grade.
