This week we were lucky enough to be visited by Sam the storyteller. He told us some spooky Halloween stories and we joined in with the magic spells.  On Thursday, we took part in a BBC Author’s Live event.  We listened to stories written by Kes Gray.  Once we listened to the story of Quentin the duck, we sketched him on our whiteboards. We are quite the artists!

After learning about car safety and road safety, we took part in a road safety competition. We made posters and we are crossing our fingers that one of ours will be chosen as a winner!

We have been learning about tribes in the rainforest. Their lives are very different from ours.  They make their own houses, they hunt for their food and they make their own clothes.  We were amazed to learn that tribes make their own medicine from plants in the rainforest.

We are very excited to see what next week will bring!

Another busy week in primary 2b!

After learning about the animals in the rainforest, we worked together to make our rainforest wall.

We learned about Pointillism to make colourful snakes.  Pointillism is a way of painting in which small separate dots of pure colour are used to form images.

We also made tree frogs using paper plates and paint.  We painted the plates green, coloured in the frog parts and then stuck it all together.

This week, we received a special letter from Antuko, our squirrel monkey.  He was asking for our help. He had been left in charge of the animals in the rainforest but he was too busy being a cheeky monkey that he lost some of the animals!  He needed us to solve maths problems to find all of the rainforest animals.  We worked in pairs to do this.  He was very happy that we had agreed to help.

Please make sure you have a look at all of our wonderful work when you visit the classroom for parents’ evening.

What a fantastic week we have had!

This week we have been learning about the amazing creatures in the rainforest.  We loved hearing and watching videos about the Basilisk Lizard who can run on water.  Did you know that this lizard’s nickname is the Jesus Christ Lizard?  We also enjoyed watching a video about the Lyre bird that mimics any sounds heard within the rainforest.

This week we celebrated St Vincent de Paul’s feast day on 27th September.  St Vincent de Paul is the patron saint of charities so we thought about ways in which we could help charity too.

We have worked very hard this week and can’t wait to see what next week brings!
