At assembly we listened to Miss McCrorie as she told us all about 100 years of Catholic Education. We were shocked to learn that children had to pay to go to school to learn about their faith. We are glad the laws changed so that we can go to school and learn about our faith for free.  She also reminded us that we can speak to Jesus, our teacher, through reading stories in the Bible.

This week, we completed our writing about our first day on the Titanic. Our next step is to type these up on the computer during ICT.  Please make sure you read these in our writing jotters when you visit at parents’ evening.

In science, we learned about solids, liquids and gases. The atoms in solids are all packed together, the atoms in liquids are close together but like to move around and the atoms in gases like to move around freely.  Look at our examples for each…

Solids – rocks, wall, table, glass

Liquids – water, milk, orange juice

Gases –helium, oxygen

Before we were snowed in, Mr Fogg came into our classroom to read us a story for World Book Week. He read The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark and brought in his owl Dusk. We were very excited to hear the story and to meet Dusk.  Mr Fogg explained that Dusk was a barn owl and told us some fun facts.  We hope Dusk visits again!

This week our writing focus was an imaginative recount. We wrote about our first day on the Titanic.  We described what we could see, hear and how we felt.  We can’t wait to finish these next week and hopefully share them with you.

During social studies, we looked at pictures of upper and lower class passengers. We made suitcases for their trip on the Titanic.  We had to think carefully about the items that they would have brought with them.

Yesterday we took part in a Fairtrade competition.  We had to design a shopping bag.  We researched different Fairtrade items that we could buy in the supermarket. Fingers crossed one of us will be the lucky winner!

We have been math superstars this week! One thing we have enjoyed doing was adding and subtracting 10 using our 100 square. We are very quick at completing these calculations now!

Please continuing commenting on our work, we love replying to you!

We had a very busy 3 days back at school! On Wednesday we attended a service for Ash Wednesday and received ashes on our foreheads. We made Lenten promises and we are saying an extra prayer each morning throughout Lent. Image result for ash wednesday

We also celebrated St Valentine. We listened to Valentine’s story and then made cards for the people we love.

On Thursday we sketched the Titanic. Firstly we looked at the different 2D and 3D shapes we could see.  Then we made a rough sketch.  Finally we used graphite sticks to complete our sketches and to add in some shading.

We have had a very busy two weeks at school!

Last week we celebrated St Cadoc’s day by listening to the story of St Cadoc, going to Mass and making mice to go on our RERC wall. We were also given a little white mouse to eat!

To celebrate Robert Burns, we had a Burn’s supper in class. We tried some vegetarian haggis and tatties.  We also tried some delicious shortbread… yum yum!

To raise money for wet play resources we had a crazy hair day. Some of us had a spider in our hair, a lizard, a football, an ice cream sundae and a donut!

This week in ICT, we used the paint programme to make our own Titanic ships. We used the line, shape and colour tools to make these masterpieces!

We have also been learning more about the Titanic. During play, some of us built the Titanic using the mega blocks.

We learned about a survivor on the Titanic named ‘The Unsinkable Molly Brown’. She was a 2nd class passenger and she took charge of lifeboat 6.  She kept everyone rowing for over 7 hours and gave up her fur coats to keep people warm.

We wonder what next week will bring!

This week we started to learn about the our new topic – The Titanic.

Here are some interesting facts:

It took over 2 years to build.

It took over 3000 men to build it.

There was a 1st, 2nd and 3rd class on board.

In 3rd class, passengers had to share their rooms and slept in bunkbeds.

We can’t wait to find out more about The Titanic and keep you updated!

This week we learned about other world religions.  We looked at the different places people can pray and looked at different books used for prayer.

On Wednesday, we had lots of fun in the snow.  We worked in pairs to try and build a snowman or an igloo.

This week we have been learning lots through play. We made a Santa’s workshop in our classroom.  At one station we made snowflakes to hang beside our window.  At another station we made toys using wood and then we wrapped the toys, ready to go on Santa’s sleigh!  We also wrote letters to Santa… we hope he sees them on his Santa cam!

A large group of P2b have been attending Miss Hillhouse’s prayer service every morning during Advent. It is a lovely way to start our day.

This afternoon we will be having our Christmas parties. We are very excited and can’t wait to get our dancing shoes on!

Our Christmas show rehearsals are in full swing! We cannot wait to perform for all of our families this afternoon.

Our elf Jingles went missing. We thought he was on an adventure. We wrote an imaginative story about what we thought he might be doing.  In order to find him, we made MISSING posters.  Jingles came back this morning! Yay!

During the month of Advent we have been praying to God. We made an Advent promise that we will think about during this month.  We also listened to the Nativity story in RE and wrote about it in our jotters.

What a busy week we have had!

This week we received our book bags and our parents were invited in to our classroom to read with us and play some games. We had lots of fun together.

On Thursday we celebrated the patron saint of Scotland – St Andrew. We learned that he was a disciple and went around the world telling people about Jesus.

On Friday, Mr Campbell delivered a box to our classroom. It was from the North Pole.  Santa has sent an elf to watch over us.  We decided to call him Jingles.  There was a poster and a letter from Santa.  He also gave us a magic elf door and a Santa camera. We wonder what our elf will get up to!

What a braw week we’ve had! We have been celebrating Scots language week.  We listened to the story of The Grufalo in Scots.  Then we wrote an acrostic poem in pairs.  We used lots of Scots language in our poems.  Here is an example of one of our poems:

Gruffalo has a poisonous plook on his neb.

Run fae the horrible beastie.

Up in the tree, the feart hoolet hid.

Full o clooks on his taes.

Feart tod runs intae his hame.

Aahhhhh yelped the feart animals.

Little broon moose went intae the widds.

Oh no, it’s the gruffalo!Image result for the gruffalo

We hope you have a bonnie weekend!
