We are back! We all had a fantastic long weekend and hope you did too!

This week in PE we were practising our skills for our Sports Day. We are looking forward to taking part in it next week.

Yesterday was the last day of May so we thought about Mary and prayed the Rosary. We all shared our special intentions with one another and looked at beautiful images of Mary whilst we sang hymns.

In French, we have been learning about the body parts. We sang ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ in French with Mrs Margiotta.

We are looking forward to a full week of school next week 🙂

On Tuesday, we went to St Cadoc’s Talent Show.  We saw lots of great acts on the stage including Maria and Ellis from our class.  They did magic tricks.  We were very proud of them! Miss Nisanci was one of the judges.

We had a visitor on Wednesday. He was a parent from Miss McCrorie’s class.  He came in to speak to us about where he was from.  He told us all about India; the culture and traditions.  We learned that cricket and chess were very popular sports in India.  We also learned that India is the 7th largest country in the world.  We now know some of the different languages people speak in India too!

We worked with Mrs Mooney’s class to complete calculations outside using chalk. We challenged one another to complete vertical and horizontal calculations.

This afternoon Miss Nisanci has a special treat for us as it is her birthday tomorrow. We wonder what it will be… Mrs McBride has given everyone Friday off of school for her birthday! (21 again…)

We hope you have a lovely long weekend and hope the sun comes out!

On Monday at Muddy Movers, we made mud masks! We had to collect wet soil from the stream and put it on a tree.  Then, we had to collect flowers, rocks, grass and sticks to make our faces.  We tried to make them symmetrical.  Have a look at our funny/scary mud masks!

On Wednesday we practised our calculations outside using chalk. We worked in pairs and challenged our peers.

On Thursday, we took part in an Authors Live event with the BBC. An author called Ross Collins read his book to us and then showed us how to illustrate the main character.

For writing, we wrote special prayers to Mary. We told her why she is so important to us, who we wanted to pray for during the month of May and why we chose this person.  Mary must have heard our prayers as the sun was shining as we wrote them.  We finished our day by saying the Rosary.

We have started learning about different cities and towns within Scotland.  We also learned about the landmarks in each of these places.  Here are some fun facts:

Highest mountain: Ben Nevis

Longest river: River Tay

Largest loch: Loch Lomond

Capital city: Edinburgh

This week we have been continuing praying to Mary.

We made beautiful stained glass pictures which we have hung above our statue of Mary and Ben brought in beautiful flowers for her altar.  Fergus made an amazing Bible which we have placed on our altar also.
We also learned the story of St Bernadette and wrote summaries in our jotter.  Yesterday we had a Mass to celebrate Ascension Thursday.  Monsignor came to school and explained what the ascension was.

Talia returned from an amazing holiday in Japan and told us all about the Japanese food, culture and taught us some Japanese words!

We had a short week but a busy one!

This week we started to pray to Mary as May is the month of May.  We will be saying a Hail Mary everyday and praying for our family and friends.  We are hoping to get some nice flowers for our altar for Mary.

Yesterday, we started learning about our new topic – Scotland. Miss Nisanci let us choose what we wanted to learn about.  We gave her lots of ideas.  Our first lesson was about locating Scotalnd on a map.  Then we researched different cities within Scotland.

In writing, we wrote about what we wanted to be when we are older. Here are some of our dream jobs;

footballer
astronaut
shop keeper
vet
teacher
engineer
athlete
swimming teacher
author

We discussed why it is important to have a job and the skills we would need to have for each of these jobs.

In ICT, we were developing our typing skills and learning how to open documents and save them in the correct place. Next week, we will insert some images.

This afternoon, we will be doing our mini talent show in class and vote for who will represent P2b in the whole school talent show. We are very excited to watch one another perform.

We are excited for our long weekend and we hope you have fun too! 🙂

On Monday, we went to the forest and we took our boats. We put our boats into the water and watched them float or sink!

Most of them were able to float down the stream.

When we got back to school, we evaluated our boats and we took them home to share with our families.

This week was World of Work Week. We were very lucky to have some visitors come into our class and tell us about their jobs.  Our first visitor was a lecturer in TV production.  He brought his camera, microphone, headphones and a bright light.  We made a video of what we wanted to be when we grew up.

Our next visitor was a music teacher called Claire. She taught us how to warm up our voices and then she taught u a song  Look out XFactor!

Today we had an engineer tell us about her job. She told us all about artificial intelligence.  Later today, we will have a visit from a park ranger and also a heart surgeon.  We are looking very forward to these!

This week in writing we wrote a Spring Senses poem. We thought about what we could hear, see, touch, taste and smell during Spring.  We also tried to add in adjectives and adverbs to make our poems more interesting.  Here’s an example:

Spring looks like fluffy lambs running in the beautiful fresh grass.

Spring sounds like bees buzzing quickly around me.

Spring feels like soft chicks sitting in my hands.

Spring smells like beautiful flowers.

Spring tastes like ice cream melting quickly down my throat.

We hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

This week in gym, we did our mile run and Miss Nisanci taught us how to skip using skipping ropes.  We found this quite tricky and we look forward to trying this again next week.

In maths, we were learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  Here are some examples of 2D and 3D shapes:

2D shapes
square
triangle
circle
rectangle
pentagon
hexagon
octagon

3D shapes
pyramid
cone
cube
cylinder
cuboid

To finish our Titanic topic, we discussed everything that we had learned last term.  Then we wrote about our favourite part in our jotters.  Some of these included; passengers, different classes, different decks and how the Titanic sank.

We wrote about what we did during the Easter holidays. Some of us went on holiday, some went to the cinema, some of us spent time with our families and some of us had some lazy days! We were all able to insert adjectives into our writing to make it more interesting.

Miss Lynch taught us about the new VR headsets. We got to try these out and we loved them! We saw different scenes for example, a shark tank, a volcano and London. It felt like we were really there!

We have had a busy first week back at school!

We started our design process for making our boats.

Stage 1 – Planning

We looked at the different types of boats and spoke about the different features of each one.

Stage 2 – Specification

We had to outline what we wanted our boat to do. It had to be able to transport 4 marbles across water.  It had to be waterproof and strong.  It had to be made from recycled materials and the most the important part was that it had to FLOAT!

Stage 3 – Researching

We looked at different types of materials and tested what was waterproof and what would float.

Stage 4 – Designing

We designed what we wanted our boats to look like.

Stage 5 – Building

We worked with our P7 buddy to build our boats using recycled materials. We then sketched and labelled our final model.

We have yet to complete stage 6 (Testing) and stage 7 (Evaluating). We will be doing this after the Easter holidays.  We can’t wait to see if our boats will float!

In ICT, we learned how to insert shapes into a Word document.  We inserted a speech bubble and wrote our most favourite Titanic facts.  We also changed the colour and the font of our writing.  Finally, we learned how to save our documents into our own file.

This week we sequenced the Easter Story.  We listened to the passage from the Bible and then completed a cut and stick activity in our jotters.  We also attended P6’s Lenten Assembly today where we listened to the Stations of the Cross.

We want to wish everyone a very happy and Holy Easter with your families!

On Monday, we went over to St Cadoc’s Woods to complete our muddy movers. We practised our balancing skills by walking along logs and we also walked through the water.  We had to be careful where we placed our feet in the water as there were lots of rocks.  We hope we can visit again next week.

On Tuesday, we went to the Tesco football festival. We played lots of games of football and some warm up games.  We had a fantastic time and were able to show off our football skills that we had learned during our 6 week course with Alistair and Tommy.

Wednesday was Human Rights Day. Our focus on was on Gandhi. We learned that he fought for his country to become independent.  He was also put into prison several times for organising protests.  In India, his birthday is celebrated as a national holiday.  We made posters to tell people about Gandhi.

‘Where there is love, there is life’ – Gandhi

In science we learned more about solids, liquids and gases. We learned about them changing state, for example, snow is a solid. When it melts it becomes a liquid.  When it freezes it becomes a solid again.  We also learned that water freezes at zero degrees Celsius and water turns to a gas at 100 degrees Celsius .

As part of our social studies topic, we learned about Morse Code.   Morse code is made up of dots and dashes.  We tried to solve secret messages using Morse code.  We learned that ships, like the Titanic , would have used this to communicate with other ships.  Miss Nisanci let us use a torch to pretend we were on the Titanic sending a distress message.  We had lots of fun!

Today we finally celebrated World Book Day! We came dressed as characters from our favourite books. In our class we had 5 Fantastic Mr Fox, 3 Horrid Henry, 2 characters from Harry Potter, 2 princesses, 1 red crayon, a Matilda, a Cat in the hat and other wonderful characters.  We listened to lots of stories from our friends, Miss Nisanci and Miss McCrorie which we thoroughly enjoyed!
