September in P5c

Thank you for taking the time to read the September issue of the P5c learning blog. We hope you enjoy reading about all the fantastic learning we have undertaken over the past few weeks!

We have been learning various skills across different curricular areas. For example, with Mrs Rogers, we planned and designed our own unique LEGO portraits, using bold colours to attract attention.

During Writing lessons, we have been creating texts of different types, such as humorous rhyming poems and limericks, formal letters and sharing personal information about ourselves and our greatest achievements and challenges.

In Maths, we have covered a range of topics.

Members of the ‘Cubes’ group have recently been identifying 3D shapes and describing their properties.

Our ‘Spheres’ have been carrying out various number processes using function machines.

Our ‘Pyramids’ have been practising multiplication, addition and subtraction facts which are really important for developing mental agility.

During Mental Maths warm up sessions, we have used games like ‘Fizz Buzz’ and ‘True or False’ to test our knowledge of multiplication and division facts.

At the end of each week, we have enjoyed testing our understanding of spelling rules and mathematical processes during Assessment.

In RE, some of us have been busy preparing to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which we are very much looking forward to this Saturday! We have all learned about the Seven Sacraments available to followers of the Catholic faith. They are: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders and Anointing of the Sick.

In PE, we have been developing endurance, sportsmanship and object control in rugby, basketball and football activities.

In Outdoor Learning, we have loved exploring the ‘lower forest’ area. Some of the activities we have completed include:

·       Construction of 3D shapes

·       Construction of homes for insects and small animals

·       Muddy Faces

·       Creating symmetrical images

We really loved becoming ‘at one with nature’, making use of just the natural materials all around us to complete these challenges.

We are so excited for another month of fabulous learning! Please revisit our blog to find out about the new knowledge and skills we gain throughout October.

Thanks for reading!

P5c and Miss O’Hara
