Our Progress – Reflecting on our efforts…We are GOLDEN!
Committees
We started to participate in committees. At first, we started off with not that many people but then we got more and more people. We joined different groups. Every two weeks on a Monday we go to a meeting and every two weeks, on a Thursday, we present to different classes (Article 12).
COP 26
We learned about climate change and the disastrous effects of human actions on on our planet. Prime Ministers and Presidents came to the UK (Glasgow!) to discuss climate change and COP 26. People are trying to help the environment and lessen climate change. Here are some ways that you can help: plant more trees, use less paper & plastic, don’t buy products containing palm oil, and try to buy sustainable products wherever you can (Article 24).
Equality & Equity
Equality means the state of being equal in status rights or opportunities. Whereas equality is giving everyone a shoe, equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits. Equity is important to make sure everyone receives support they need (Article 3).
Anti-Bullying
The goal of anti-bullying learning and campaigning is to stop bulling and unkind behaviour. Here are some types of bullying: verbal, cyber, physical, and social. People ages 12-18 are sometimes bullied, but also younger children. These types of bullying can affect your mental health (Article 19 and 2).
Rights Language
We did a PowerPoint on the 5 Key Words for Rights: Universal, Unconditional, Inherent, Indivisible, Unalienable. Universal means that everyone around the world knows about it; inherent means that it always be there; indivisible means unable to be separated or divided; unconditional means not a subject to any condition; unalienable means we will always have these rights throughout our lives (Article 30).
World Children’s Day
We delivered an assembly about this special day. We showed different classes how people travel to school around the world, and assigned them a see, think and wonder task. They also had to write a question about the images they looked at.
The Gold Award
We have been creating presentations to teach everyone about rights to achieve the Gold Award and develop all of our pupils’ knowledge. Our aim was to achieve the Gold Award by February 2022. After challenging work and dedication, we finally had the opportunity to showcase this, and found out in March that we had achieved our biggest goal yet!!!
