Accountancy Opportunity – Johnston Carmichael

As Scotland’s largest independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, we offer you the opportunity to be part of a large and dynamic team, work with a diverse range of clients and be recognised for the individual impact you make.

An award winning firm, we are also proud to be one of the first businesses in Scotland to receive the Investors in Young People (IIYP) accreditation in recognition of our commitment to attracting, recruiting, developing and retaining talented professionals under the age of 28 – a group which comprises a third of our current workforce.

JC Futures School Leaver Programme:

JC Futures is a six-year training programme. The first year involves transition from school and settling into the workplace. We work with you to develop your basic accounting skills and this culminates in you achieving a Certificate in Bookkeeping. Following the introductory year we then consider the most appropriate studies for you to follow with options including ICAS, ACCA, AAT and ATT.  Alongside this you’ll be working within our accounts, audit or business solutions team, gaining valuable practical experience while studying for your exams.

We currently have a vacancy in our Glasgow office for a summer 2018 start. To apply, please follow this link:

S6 Blood Drive

On Thursday 11 January, 58 of our S6 pupils volunteered to give blood to help top up the current blood stocks.  At the moment, the current stocks across the west of Scotland is very low for a number of blood types.  Blood demand is unpredictable and there must be a enough blood ready at any one time to help patients in all Scottish hospitals, whenever they need it.  NHS Scotland aims to have six days worth of each blood type available at all times.  As you can see from the diagram above, this is not the case for the majority of blood types.  All pupils involved enjoyed the experience and have vowed to give blood on a regular occurrence.  Well done to all involved.

Mock Interviews

Many thanks to Professor Gerard McKay, Dr Paul Edgar, Dr Chris Grant, Ali Shabir and Martyn Ritchie who have helped prepare our pupils for their upcoming Medicine and Dentistry interviews.

Many thanks also to Caitlin McCrorie, Christina Thomson and Rachel Fox who conducted mock interviews for Primary Teaching.

If any S6 pupil is invited for interview for any of they courses they should let their Pastoral Support teacher and Mr Fuchs as soon as they find out so that a mock interview can be arranged.

Medical Interview Presentation – Dr Sion Williams

We were delighted and honoured to have Dr Sion Williams deliver a presentation on ‘Interview Techniques’ to S5 and S6 pupils who have applied or are considering applying for Medicine.

Dr Williams is a practicing Medical Doctor in Oxford University Hospital specialising in Nephrology (kidneys) while also lecturing Medical students at the University of Oxford.

His presentation was very informative and gave our young people fantastic advice for both their applications and interviews.   He has generously allowed us to share his presentation with pupils, parents and staff.
