{"id":724,"date":"2021-01-19T17:04:22","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T17:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/snhsfaithlife\/?p=724"},"modified":"2021-01-19T17:04:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T17:04:22","slug":"spiritual-communion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/er\/snhsfaithlife\/2021\/01\/19\/spiritual-communion\/","title":{"rendered":"Spiritual Communion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As well as using online Masses we should consider the commitment of a Spiritual Communion during this time when we cannot physically attend Mass.<\/p>\n<p>During this \u201cEucharistic Fast\u201d one way to keep close to the Lord is to make a \u201cSpiritual Communion.\u201d This is an ancient spiritual tradition of the Church which consists in making a simple act of \u201cspiritual communion,\u201d whereby we unite ourselves to God through prayer. It is a beautiful way to express to God our desire to be united with him when we are unable to receive Holy Communion.<br \/>\nSt. Thomas Aquinas defined a Spiritual Communion as \u201can ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament [in Communion at Mass] and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him.\u201d You can make a Spiritual Communion whenever and wherever you like, using the prayer given below, or others like it, or your own heartfelt thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>An Act of Spiritual Communion<br \/>\nMy Jesus,<br \/>\nI believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.<br \/>\nI love You above all things,<br \/>\nand I desire to receive You into my soul.<br \/>\nSince I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,<br \/>\ncome at least spiritually into my heart.<br \/>\nI embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.<br \/>\nNever permit me to be separated from You.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, you can receive Jesus in your heart from anywhere you might happen to be, at any time, day or night! You just need to approach Him with sincerity, humility and a desire to follow in His footsteps in acts of faith and charity. And He\u2019s delighted when we do so!
