As you know, in order to try to limit the spread of Covid-19, the Bishops have decided to suspend all public Masses for the foreseeable future. <\/p>\n
This means that many people who are used to receiving Holy Communion regularly at Mass will not be able to do so for the time being. <\/p>\n
During this \u201cEucharistic Fast\u201d one way to keep close to the Lord is to make a \u201cSpiritual Communion.\u201d This is an ancient spiritual tradition of the Church which consists in making a simple act of \u201cspiritual communion,\u201d whereby we unite ourselves to God through prayer. It is a beautiful way to express to God our desire to be united with him when we are unable to receive Holy Communion.
\nSt. Thomas Aquinas defined a Spiritual Communion as \u201can ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament [in Communion at Mass] and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him.\u201d You can make a Spiritual Communion whenever and wherever you like, using the prayer given below, or others like it, or your own heartfelt thoughts.
\nAn Act of Spiritual Communion
\nMy Jesus,
\nI believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
\nI love You above all things,
\nand I desire to receive You into my soul.
\nSince I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
\ncome at least spiritually into my heart.
\nI embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
\nNever permit me to be separated from You.
\nAmen.
\nRemember, you can receive Jesus in your heart from anywhere you might happen to be, at any time, day or night! You just need to approach Him with sincerity, humility and a desire to follow in His footsteps in acts of faith and charity. And He\u2019s delighted when we do so!
