We have been working very hard since coming back to school!
Maths
We have really enjoyed learning our multiplication tables. We can times by 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and even 11! We have also been learning how to divide. We have discovered some new maths symbols – ‘<‘ which means less than and ‘>’ which means greater than – and have learned how to use them correctly. We have been playing ‘Maths Karate’ to help us work out the meaning of maths words. The Cubes have also been working really hard with calculations and have learned how to subtract with exchanging! It was tricky at first but now we are experts! We have been learning about angles – we know that a right angle has 90 degrees and a straight angle has 180 degrees. We also discovered acute, obtuse and reflex angles. We have also spent a lot of time on some tricky maths challenges!
Literacy
We are very excited to have started our new class novel, Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. We have read the first two chapters and have been discussing the characters Boggis, Bunce and Bean. We made predictions on what we think will happen in the story. We have also been listening to another Roald Dahl story, The Witches – it is really exciting! We have been working really hard with some tricky reading comprehension challenges and have been practising reading the questions carefully and getting our answers from the story. We have learned some new spelling rules and sounds.
R.E.
Before the holidays, we spent a lot of time learning about the Easter story. We learned about Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, Jesus dying on the cross and finally rising from the dead! We have also been learning about the religion of Islam. We have been learning about Ramadan which is the time where Muslims fast to prepare for Eid. Eid is a very special day where Muslims get together with their families to celebrate! We enjoyed learning about other religions and we thank Umair, Eesa, Aroush and Abdurrehman for teaching us about their faith! We have also been listening to some of the parables told by Jesus. We have been hearing the Parable of the Talents and we enjoyed sharing our own talents with the class.
Ancient Egypt
We really loved learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We learned about the pharaohs and their pyramids and tombs. We learned a lot about Tutankhamun (The Boy King) and the story about how Howard Carter discovered his lost tomb in 1922! We enjoyed hearing about the many different Gods and Goddesses, such as Isis, Ra and Anubis. We learned about mummification and made our very own class pharaoh ‘Jackenaten’ into a mummy! We all worked very hard on our projects at home and had a lovely time presenting these to the class. It was the best topic ever!
Outdoor Learning
We have been taking of care of the environment by doing lots of litter picking around our school and Cadoc Wood. We collected lots of litter! We got to go to the park afterwards for a reward, and it was so fun! We have also made boats and rafts and tested them in the river. We also worked in teams to make bridges to cross the river. We tested them and a few of us fell in!
We have just voted for our new science topic. We have chosen to learn about forces! We are excited to take part in lots of experiments.
