We have all been working very hard so far in Primary 3! Here are some of the things we have been learning about:

In Maths we have been learning about symmetry. We coloured symmetrical patterns and even made some of our own in the forest! We found some butterflies in the outdoor classroom and discovered that their wings were symmetrical so we painted some butterflies of our own! It was very fun! 🙂 We have also been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and working on odd and even numbers. We have learned some exciting new mental maths games such as Popcorn, Knockout and Killer 10!

In Literacy, we have been working hard on our spelling rules and with our new reading books. We have been learning to answer different types of questions about the stories such as true, false and can’t tell. We made some yummy empire biscuits and we wrote out some instructions about how to make them! We enjoyed reading the story ‘Tiddler’ about a fish who is always late for school! We wrote our versions of the story using our imagination. We also wrote imaginative stories about Foodimal characters – they were crazy! We have also been writing about our weekeneds and sharing this with the class.

We have been learning emotions by reading The Colour Monster! In the story each emotion was represented by a different colour:

happy – yellow

sad – blue

scared – black

angry  – red

calm – green

love – pink

We did lots of circle time and made some giant colour monsters of our own! We have been learning to be good friends and have Heart Partners who can help us when we are sad. In P.E. we have practising running a ‘mini-mile’ and have enjoyed playing games and races in the MUGA.

In R.E. we having been learning about the creation story. We learned that God created the world in seven days and listened to the story about Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. They were tempted by the snake to take an apple from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and they were punished!

Our new topic is Oceans and Seas. We sang the oceans song and a song about the continents. Did you know that Pacific Ocean means ‘peaceful sea’? We used the chromebooks for the first time and (after a lot of technical difficulties) researched some weird and wonderful sea creatures!

We have enjoyed outdoor learning in the forest and the outdoor classroom. We have been doing technology, maths, health and wellbeing and drama outside so far!

We have enjoyed taking part in group of the week and counting our group crystals on a Friday. We have also been awarding our ‘mystery students’ 10 house points for following instructions. We have enjoyed Golden Time on a Friday afternoon and finding out the Star of the Week!
