P4B Monthly Blog

Welcome to our blog! I hope you enjoy reading all about our learning during the first months back at school.

August

The children learned about the new school routines and classroom expectations. While school life is certainly different, the pupils have quickly settled into their new Primary 4 class. Primary 4B created and continue to follow our class charter to ensure we maintain a positive learning environment. We talked about our goals and targets for the new session. We started our Outdoor Learning, in the Upper Forest area on the lovely school grounds at St. Cadoc’s. We have participated in a variety of activities during our Outdoor Learning time, such as Numeracy lessons where we put on our detective hats and measured the circumference of various trees in order to discover which tree in St. Cadoc’s wood was the oldest! Following this, we went on an enjoyable sound walk, noticing specific sounds in nature which led to fantastic pieces of creative writing! We are thoroughly enjoying this new environment for our learning and will continue to take part in different activities and lessons within all areas of the curriculum… our next adventure will include collecting outdoor objects such as leaves, sticks, etc, to create Autumn themed art work. We have been learning different strategies to solve problems and continue to practise mental strategies, carrying and exchange as well as revising our times tables.

September

As we enter into the Autumn months, the days will begin to grow colder. This, however, will not deter P4B from participating in a range of exciting activities during our Outdoor Learning time – however, we may need to ensure we are wrapped up! Our new Outdoor Classroom has provided us with another valuable area for our learning. As part of our learning about the Jewish New Year, we planned and performed a drama role-play using various props and resources. (See the photos!)

We have been working through the Liturgical Calendar as well as the This Our Faith Planners. For the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 8th September, we created lovely Miraculous Mary Medals. We wished the Primary 5 pupils a very happy Holy Communion and look forward to when we begin our Sacramental Preparations.

Our class topic is Australia and we have been learning about different aspects of the country, such as, traditions, animals, famous landmarks as well as food – we wrote a recipe for ‘Fairy Bread’ and then created it ourselves! We have been working very hard since the beginning of the term and have remembered to maintain a ‘Growth Mindset’. We understand that making mistakes is part of learning and we should always try our very best to give it a go! We have been using our new Jigsaw resource in Health & Well-being, which covers a wide range of important areas and have been taking part in a daily Mindfulness practice. We are very lucky as our music teacher has been able to connect with us via live video to continue to deliver excellent music lessons, which the children are thoroughly enjoying. We are very excited for MATHS week to begin and are eager to take part in the SumDog tasks and challenges, as well as enjoying an array of engaging numeracy lessons during class time.

We look forward to what October will bring and hope you do too! 🙂
