In Maths we have been doing Algebraic expressions and are now really confident in completing these.

For our Topic on Australia we have been researching Landmarks, Animals, weather and Maps. We did an aboriginal piece of artwork. We are getting prepared to make an advert encouraging people to visit Australia

We are really working hard rehearsing for our Christmas advent show.

We have had a fantastic time  in P6 so far and have all settled in well. We have been participating in lots of fun learning activities and have learned some new skills along the way.

A real highlight for us was working in our political parties that we formed ourselves, we chose our name, logo, slogan and promises to display on our manifests, We were able to record and edit our own political party campaign videos. We worked together to present these in our groups to P6A who were then able to vote at the polling station for the political party that impressed them the most. The Blue party won this election , All of the children worked extremely hard and showed what confident individuals they are to present in front of peers from another class. We really felt like successful learners when all of our hard work was showcased on displays outside our classroom. The policies that we selected were based on making Newton Mearnsand/ or Scotland a better place to live.

The blue parties focus was to help the environment by cutting down on plastic waste , this shows what responsible citizens we are.  We are looking forward to being effective contributors in our next topic on Australia. We voted as a class on this continent and we hope to find it as enjoyable and engaging as the Scottish democracy topic.

That’s all from us for now check in soon for more updates on what we are learning in P6B.

Welcome to our first blog!

Hello fellow oxygen consuming, air-breathing humans! Welcome to our blog. Here you will be able to explore and share in our learning.

In art and design we’re creating detailed line drawings of a bull dog. It’s quite tricky to do, you need to follow instructions step-by-step to build up the picture. You also need to be really patient and take your time. Libby showed great leadership skills when she demonstrated to the class ‘how to…’

We’ve also created an art exhibition area in our class. We each choose a piece of artwork that we are most proud of and display it.

In health and wellbeing  we visited Giffnock sportshub. In the sports hub we took part in athletics, football, netball, rugby, tennis, karate, squash and hockey. By the end of the visit we were exhausted! But it was a great day.

We’ve also just finished our novel study. We read ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. We created a learning wall to show our illustrations and our storywriting linked to the topic.

Finally, our class explored the Rights of the child. We each selected one  of the articles of the child from 6-10 and created posters and a drama /game to present to the P4 classes.

We hope you enjoyed our first class blog. Stay tuned for the next instalment…
