March 2022

Marching into Spring!

Another busy month filled with lots of fun!

We celebrated our first Reconciliation which was a lovely evening for families and staff alike.  For those children who were absent, they will be making their Reconciliation on April 20th in school with Canon Eddie.  Please keep an eye on Twitter for photographs.

Throughout the month of Lent we have been thinking about Acts of Hope which we can do to make the world a fairer place.  Some of our ideas included donating items/money to charity, helping more at home, helping more within school and trying to think of ways to help our local community.  Canon Eddie also came in to do Stations of the Cross in the playground – this was a special treat for us.

We have been enjoying taking part in Beat the Street.  We have managed to get out a few times, walking more than 3km each time and thankfully the weather was kind to us!  We also stumbled upon a fantastic park so of course we had to have a little play – this included Miss Nisanci!

Sadly, we’ve come to the end of our novel study.  It has been AMAZING! We have taken part in so many learning experiences throughout reading this including;
Reading comprehension
Writing pieces
Art – designing our own factories and chocolate bars
Drama – creating an advert for our chocolate bar
Food and technologies – designing and making our own chocolate bar.
Making the chocolate bar was by far our FAVOURITE activity to do!  We also watched the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie and made comparisons, in groups, about the book and movie.  We found a lot of similarities and differences!

As always, this is just a little snippet of what we have been learning.  We are looking forward to a well deserved break, hopefully the sun will shine for us!

February 2022

Another quick month!

This month we have been working very hard with our multiplication facts.  We have been revising these everyday and competing vertical calculations.  Miss Nisanci said we are much more confident with these!  We worked together in groups to create posters about ‘Why we do maths’  We researched different jobs that use maths every day and famous mathematicians/scientists throughout the world.  Check out these posters on Twitter!

We are LOVING our novel study – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We have written newspaper reports, diary entries and we have been designing new chocolate bars in groups.  Once we have designed our bars, we will be advertising them to P4a.  We are enjoying working together on this project.  We can’t wait to share our finished designs with you 🙂

In preparation for our Reconciliation, we have had a few services with Cannon Eddie.  He has spoken to us about forgiveness and how we can say sorry to God.  We can’t wait to make our Reconciliation next month.

We are looking forward to another busy month in March and then we will have a well deserved break in April!

January 2022

Happy New Year! Where did January go?!

We have had a busy few weeks at school… let us tell you some more!

Firstly, we started our new novel study; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We absolutely love it so far and have completed many activities in relation to it.  We wrote a newspaper report, made posters to advertise the golden tickets, designed a chocolate bar and designed Willy Wonka’s factory.  We cannot wait to read more and hopefully make some chocolate treats! Yum!

This week, we had a very special visit from Cannon Eddie.  He came to speak to us about our Reconciliation and Eucharist and had a Service of Enrolment. We made promises that we would learn more about these Sacraments in school and at home.  We are very excited to receive these Sacraments in the coming months.

We celebrated Other World Religions this week.  We learned about different faiths, cultures and traditions.  Some of our peers dressed in formal dress and brought in religious artefacts and gave us a deeper understanding of each one. It was very interesting!

On 17th January we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.  We watched a PowerPoint and took notes.  We then turned these notes into a fact file.  We also watched his most famous speech, “I have a dream” and it inspired us to write out our dreams in order to make the world a fairer place.  Learning about MLK and thinking about our Sacraments has also inspired us to donate more to charity.  More info to follow on this 🙂

We had the best time in forest this week too! We were all in competition with one another to build the tallest cairn.  You will see these pictures on Google Classroom.  Miss Nisanci was very impressed with our teamwork and problem solving skills!

We are looking forward to February and our long, relaxing holiday weekend. After this we will welcome back our student teacher, Ms Gardiner who will be with us until Easter.

Miss N and P4b 🙂

November 2021

It’s that time again! Welcome to our monthly blog!

During the month of November, we prayed for all souls.  We made candles and wrote the names of our loved ones on them.  Every day we said an Our Father for everyone in Heaven.  Cannon Eddie led a service for us in the hall to remember all souls.

Remember, remember the 5th of November – on this day we made bonfire safety posters by taking notes from a presentation.  We had to make sure they were eye catching and included all of the important information.

On November 30th, we learned about St Andrew.  We watched a presentation and then completed a comprehension activity. We celebrated the day by listening to Mr McLaughlin playing the bagpipes and we designed our own tartan.

In preparation of our Christmas Fun Day, we made our enterprise craft.  We made Reindeer hot chocolates which we sell on the fun day. We had to work in pairs to help one another so we didn’t spill the hot chocolate, chocolate chips or marshmallows!  We can’t wait to buy these and try them out!

As part of our Titanic topic, we learned how to make origami boats.  We then decorated them and displayed them in the class along with the rest of our Titanic artwork.  We wrote two imaginative diary entries pretending we were on the Titanic.  We used fantastic descriptive language to set the scenes.

Next month will be the final blog of 2021!  We cannot believe it will be December so soon.  We are very excited to see what we will get up to…  we wonder if we will have an elf join our class?! Who knows!

Please remember to check Google Classroom for some pictures and videos! 🙂

October 2021

October consisted of lots of spooky experiences!  First up, we wrote amazing Halloween imaginative stories.  We focused on setting and made sure to engage our readers by using interesting vocabulary, adjectives and similes.

We were very lucky to have Mrs Cameron to guide us in making Pumpkin Soup.  We all got a chance to become sous chefs for the morning.  We took notes as we cooked in order to write a recipe for anyone else wanting to try this delicious soup!

To further develop our typing skills, we decided to type up one of our imaginative stories online.  Our next step is to change the font, add pictures and then print them to make a P4b fairy tale book for the Primary 1s.

You will have seen that Miss Nisanci posted lots of videos on Google Classroom from our trip to Parklands to attend a Judo session.  We had the best time and Jack was a fantastic coach! Maybe we’ll be able to show you some of the warm up activities and moves we learned at home.

This month has been a month of reflecting on Mary’s life and praying The Rosary in RE.  We have been praying for our family, friends and other children throughout the world.  Some of our peers brought in their prayer beads which are used in the Mosque.  We loved seeing these and learning more about them.

In numeracy we have been focusing on learning our times tables off by heart.  We are doing very well with them.  If you haven’t heard us practising them at home then please ask us and challenge us!

As always, we love to see your comments and we can’t wait to share our November blog with you.

See below for some pictures of our soup making and Halloween party day! A huge thank you to the PSA who made the day so special and exciting for the children 🙂

PS Please continue to check Google Classroom as some videos will be posted there from time to time 🙂

September 2021

Hello!

We cannot believe another month has passed us by! Although, you know the saying… time flies when you’re having fun!

We have lots to tell you about this month…

In PE, we have been developing our ball skills and learning different ways to move our body.  One of favourite games so far, is playing dodge-ball to improve those skills.  We get very competitive but are always mindful of showing respect to one another.

The results are in! Miss Nisanci asked us to choose a Social Studies topic for this term.  We suggested; The Romans, The Celts, The Vikings, Titanic and Cavemen.  We had a vote and a huge number us voted for the Titanic!  We are very excited to begin this new topic.  We gave Miss Nisanci ideas on what we wanted to learn and some fun activities we wanted to take part in.  We can’t wait to share these with you 🙂

In literacy, we wrote fantastic imaginative stories which we will hopefully be able to share with you one day.  We also entered a poetry competition. We were asked to write a poem about ourselves titled ‘This Is Me’.  Some of us chose to write an acrostic poem and some of us chose to write a rhyming rap.

During ICT, we have been developing our numeracy skills by completing a personalised maths programme created by Miss Nisanci.  We are having lots of fun doing this!

Throughout the month of September we have been further developing our numeracy skills through different concepts such as; place value to 1000, reading graphs and reading analogue/digital time. We also learned how to locate grid references. To develop this further, we played battleships in pairs.  We LOVED this!  Miss Nisanci is happy to report that we are becoming more independent working individually and using our task boards to help us.

This is only a small snippet of what we have been doing this month as you can imagine.  We are looking forward to another month of learning throughout October! 🙂

Sponsored Cycle Challenge

Thank you so much for all of your generous donations towards our sponsored cycle.  Here are more pictures following on from Twitter.

We managed to do a total of 519 laps in 30 minutes!! We were very tired afterwards!

The boys and girls would like to know how many laps do you think that 30 of you could do within half an hour?!

Reply in the comments please! 🙂

August 2021

Hello and welcome to P4b’s class blog!

We are very excited to share all of our amazing learning here with you. We know that most days, you ask us how school was and we say “fine” and when you ask us what we did, we say “nothing/stuff” So this is our platform to show off all of the fantastic learning which takes place in P4b!

During our first week, we took part in lots of fun team building activities.  We played different games which helped us to identify our likes and dislikes and to see what we all had in common.  We also went outside and had to work together as a team to play games with the parachute which we LOVED!

After lots of discussion about teamwork and recognising all our differing skills and abilities, we decided to do a mini topic on the Paralympics.  We researched the different sports and different impairments some athletes have.  We spoke about the important role of the Guide and how they must work closely with the athlete to inform them and keep them safe.  We were put into teams and chose a country to support.  We have been researching our chosen country and will be making a presentation together in ICT.  We can’t wait to share these with you so keep your eyes peeled!

In RERC, we have been learning new lunch prayers which we have been doing well with.  We also learned about another religious festival in the Hindu religion – Rahki.  We learned that people give bracelets to one another as a sign of love and protection. We designed beautiful bracelets in class and one of our classmates brought in their Rahki bracelet to share with us.

We hope you enjoyed a little snapshot of the learning which has taken place over the last two weeks and we hope you look forward to our next update as we have lots of exciting experiences planned for September!

Please leave us a comment 🙂
