The programme is aimed at\u00a0<strong>female S2 pupils<\/strong>, particularly those with an interest or talent in\u00a0<strong>mathematics or physical sciences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications open:<\/strong>\u00a04 September 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Deadline:<\/strong>\u00a05 October 2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong>: this year, Young WEIR-WISE will be delivered entirely in person on campus. Unlike previous years, there will be no online session.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Young WEIR-WISE?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme gives pupils the opportunity to explore\u00a0<strong>engineering, university study and engineering careers<\/strong>\u00a0through a range of activities at the University of Strathclyde.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A total of\u00a0<strong>200 girls<\/strong>\u00a0will be selected to attend one of the two-day sessions:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Session 1:<\/strong>\u00a011\u201312 January 2027 (2 days on campus)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Session 2:<\/strong>\u00a014\u201315 January 2027 (2 days on campus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both sessions run from\u00a0<strong>9:30am\u20133:30pm<\/strong>\u00a0each day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During the programme, pupils will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find out more about\u00a0<strong>studying engineering at university<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Hear from staff at the\u00a0<strong>University of Strathclyde and the Weir Group<\/strong>\u00a0about engineering careers and their experiences.<\/li>\n<li>Take part in\u00a0<strong>practical activities<\/strong>\u00a0led by university staff and engineers.<\/li>\n<li>Learn more about the different opportunities available within engineering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Costs and travel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The programme is<strong>\u00a0funded by the Weir Group<\/strong>, so there is\u00a0<strong>no cost for pupils to attend<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The programme is\u00a0<strong>non-residential<\/strong>, so pupils will need to travel to and from the University of Strathclyde campus in central Glasgow each day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Up to \u00a3300 in travel expenses can be reimbursed per pupil to cover travel and\/or accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teachers do not need to accompany pupils.<\/strong>\u00a0For those travelling via public transport, student mentors will be available to meet pupils at\u00a0<strong>Glasgow Queen Street, Glasgow Central and Buchanan Bus Station<\/strong>\u00a0at the start and end of each day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pupils can apply from\u00a0<strong>4 September 2026<\/strong>.
