Guardians of the Garden

Everyone Growing Together

One Planet Picnic Application

Guardians of the Garden have entered the Gardening Scotland One Planet Picnic Garden Deign Competition. The winning deigns are showcased at Gardening Scotland in June. Fingers crossed.
The theme is ‘otters playing in a mountain stream’. The Guardians of the Garden have worked on this without any adult input and spent all of their lunch hours doing this over the last three weeks, researching:-
plants – local, seasonal and condition appropriate,  and
animals – otters which have been reintroduced into Scottish waters and
putting together their plan using materials and containers they can reuse – old tyres for the water fall, old tubes from the science room for the pump, recycled pots for the plants, leftover paints to decorate, dam from twigs and moss lying in the school grounds.
They intend to use an old pallet that we have in school to construct the garden. They will grow what plants they can from seed – including grasses and have sourced wetland plants via Angela Smith – RHS.
The children are passionate about their gardening projects and I am very proud of them and their commitment.
