Primary 7a 2024 – 2025

P4a had a great time pond-dipping at Dams-to-Darnley this week.  We couldn’t believe how many tiny creatures we found living in the pond.  A huge than you to Joe, the park ranger, for teaching us all about the wildlife in the area.

This week we have been working on our mental maths skills.  We realised we could practise these skills through Pokemon battles!  We have also been learning about inherited characteristics in Science and had some creative fun in the wind!

For Language Week Scotland, we have been celebrating all the languages within our class.  We loved teaching each other some phrases and trying out tongue twisters in different languages!

On Tuesday, we learned about Chinese New Year.  We made dragons to celebrate with our own dragon dance.

We’ve also been discussing making new friends recently.  We role-played meeting each other for the first time and gave one another some lovely compliments.

This week we visited Arthurlie House.  We learned what life in Barrhead was like in the past and couldn’t believe that children used to have to work 12 hours a day!

We looked at the Dunlop family crest on the outside of Arthurlie House then created our own crests.  They say lots about who we are.

We have also been learning to use maps as well as give and follow directions.

We’ve been getting creative and helping out our elves.  We designed and built sleighs to win a race.  The variety of designs was amazing!

We’ve been learning about the journey of the Wise Men in the Christmas story and thinking about our journey to Christmas.  We used our writing skills to write a diary of the Wise Men’s journey thinking about how they must have felt.

We have been getting into the Christmas spirit by playing some Christmas songs in Music.  We also enjoyed singing along at our Christmas Carol service.  We’re experts at Little Donkey!

This week we had a lot of fun learning about listening and manners through games and role-play.

In Maths, we were finding the area of shapes and also creating our own shapes with specific areas.

We have also been learning lots about the movements of the Earth, Sun and Moon in Science.  We know how these movements cause day and night, seasons and the phases of the Moon.

We had a great time at the Tennis Festival, showing the fantastic tennis skills we developed with the St Luke’s sports leaders.  Thanks again St Luke’s!

We have been thinking about how we can take care of the wildlife in our community.  We became engineers, deciding to design and create bird feeders.  We showed amazing resourcefulness and creativity.
