‘Discovery Word’ Vocabulary Homework – Literacy

I’d just love to take the chance to say how much the children have benefited this year from reading online articles at home for homework on a Tuesday. We discuss the Discovery Word they choose each week and try to act as ‘magpies’ by grabbing new word knowledge from others. I can really see the difference it is making in some peoples’ vocabulary and their ability to tackle comprehension tasks. Thanks to parents and carers for supporting this! Keep trying different news websites, boys and girls!

Many thanks! Miss Mac.

Scots Language Week – Literacy

This week we have been thinking about Scots Language in preparation for Burns Day! So far we have analysed one of Robery Burns’ most famous poems “Red Red Rose” and have also been preparing the Red Yo Yo song (and some props) for our Burns assembly. If you have any favourite Scots phrases or sayings, please be sure to share with you child so that they can teach the class this week. 🙂

Australia – Social Studies

The children have chosen to focus on Australia for our next Social Studies topic as it will let us explore environmetal and georgraphical experiences and outcomes. If any families have any resources related to Australia such as photographs of trips there, boomerangs etc could you please support us by allowing the children to being them in? Many thanks.

The Solar System – Science

As part of our learning about the Solar System we split into groups to conduct research on individial planets. We spoke about distance from the sun, conditions and compositions of the planet and compared these with Earth. Opportunities to collaborate are so valuable as they teach us how to truly listen, compromise and look at things in different ways.

Well done, boys and girls!

Miss Mac.

Planning Writing Collaboration – Literacy

As part of our planning for writing time we undertook some oral brainstorming. We looked at a range of genres and bounced ideas off of each other to create strong plots! We gave other groups feedback and made sure that a strong beginning, middle and end was present. This term we will have a big imaginative writing focus and want to engage our reader as much as possible. On writing day we created ‘mini-sagas’ that contained superb twists!
