Victoria Williamson (Author visit) – Literacy
Yesterday we had the pleasure of having the amazing Victoria Williamson visit our class to talk to the children about the main ingredients of a successful story. Her latest novel involves experiments and we even got to replicate one!
Numeracy this week
This week the Cuboid group were exploring the properties of a range of 3D shapes. We looked particularly at the difference between prisms add pyramids. We also identified patters in the numbers of faces and corners etc.
The Cube group were given the task of selecting an area of mathematics that has helped shaped advancements in the world around us and enhanced our lives. They then presented to the class!
World Book Day books
Today we received our World Book Day books and got started reading right away!
Volume – Numeracy and Mathematics
The Cuboid maths group have been working on the concept of volume. They finished the unit of study by progressing onto finding the volume of some challenging compound shapes. Why not ask your child to measure, then calculate the volume of some cubes and cuboids at home?

World Book Day – Literacy
Today we used a mystery ‘wrapped book’ to pique the childrens’ interests and to show them that you certainly can’t judge a book by its cover. I look forward to seeing the childrens’ ideas for the front cover and title, as well as their continuations of the story during writing time tomorrow.
Transition Visit from St. Luke’s – Health and Wellbeing
We were really excited to take the next step in our journey to St. Luke’s yesterday. Mr Toal was able to show us the difference in the schedules between our two schools and answered many of or questions. We received transition booklets that we’ll continue to work on. It will help us reflect on our feelings as we move through the next months.
Oral Hygiene – Health and Wellbeing
We received a great input on Oral Hygiene from a dental nurse today. It gave us lots to think about and gave us more information so that we can now make better decisions. One thing we decided that we can implement in class is to avoid bringing diluting juice in our water bottles.
Star of the Week – Emma!
Emma was selected as our latest Star of the Week due to the high standards she sets across the curriculum. The other children pointed out her qualities in their comments! Emma said she is proud that she always gives 100%. Well done, Emma!
