ARTiculate!

Mrs McIntyre has been working with P7 to do some ARTiculate. Combining Art with Talking, Listening and Writing skills, the class have been loving researching the artwork of war artists such as Paul Nash and Laura Knight. We can’t wait to see where our ARTiculate sessions will take us!

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies

Over the past term we’ve been meeting our Reading Buddies twice a week. For both P2 and P7 pupils, this is an opportunity to practise their reading skills such as fluency and expression.

P2 love working with the older pupils and hearing the stories that P7 like reading.

We will continue this over the next term.

Languages Week Scotland

This week has been Languages Week Scotland. In P7a, we discussed the different languages that are spoken in our class and our school. The class were challenged to learn words and phrases from a new language.

Wow words

Primary 5a have been focusing this term on up levelling their sentences for their writing.  We practiced writing sentences with chalk using a variety of wow words from our wow word bank.

Outdoor learning

On Monday we were focusing on using our senses to help us create an Autumn poem. We had lots of discussions around this season and the importance of our senses. Primary 5 had some amazing ideas and included some great wow words in their notes.

Halloween week

We have had a Halloween themed curriculum this week which involved spooky writing, haunted comprehension tasks, Halloween riddle hunt and finished off with a class Halloween party! 👻

Digital Learning Week

This week we celebrated Digital Learning Week. Throughout the week we got the chance to use lots of different digital technologies in class to enhance our learning.

To kick off our week we visited the hall to see and use all the digital equipment we have in the school. The digital leaders showed us how to use it all.

We then used the chrome books to practise our spelling for this week.  We used google docs to type up our words and also created stop motion films that show us spelling our words.

During literacy we started learning about comic books. We looked at the layout of comic books and spoke about why we enjoyed reading them. We then worked together in groups to create our own comic books. We created characters and a storyline and drew this on our storyboard. Using the app ‘Book Creator’ on the IPads we then began to create our own digital comic book. We had so much fun using our imaginations and working together.

We had so much fun using digital technologies this week!!!

Solo Talks

Just before the holidays primary 3a completed their solo talks on The Rainforest. I was blown away with the time and effort that had been spent creating these talks. They were amazing! As a class we listened to each other’s talks and gave comments and questions at the end of each one. Here are some pictures of us in action.

World Book Day 2019

We kicked off World Book Day with some maths and numeracy. The book we are reading this term is Esio Trot. We are really enjoying this book so far and learning about Mrs Silvers Tortoise. We used our numeracy skills to weigh out the different weights of the torotises in Esio Trot. We had to change our scales into ounces and we learned that 16 ounces was the same as 1lb.

We then ordered our objects from lightest to heaviest. We all had a turn to feel the weight of all of the objects and imagined them as tortoises.

After break we spent some time pair reading. We shared our favourite stories with our peers, telling them what we liked about the book. We had a great time!

World Book Day

On Thursday we will be celebrating World Book Day. Throughout the day we will be completing a varitey of tasks based on books we have read in class and at home.

For Thursday could all pupils bring in their favourite book if it is one they have from home.  All pupils will be given an opportunity on Thursday to explain to their peers why their chosen book is their favourite.

Thanks, Miss McFlynn 🙂
