Solo Talk
The boys and girls in Primary 4b have been presenting their solo talks on our recent topic, The Romans. It has been fascinating to learn so many new facts and I have been very impressed with the time, effort and care that has been put in to creating the presentations. Well done!
SCIAF Walk/ Outdoor Learning
Primary 4b enjoyed taking part in the charity walk for SCIAF this afternoon.
We have recently been learning about digital and analogue time and this was the focus of the Outdoor Learning challenge today. Everyone was tasked with using the loose parts to create a clock that displayed their favourite time of the day. Most clocks displayed 3pm…I wonder why!
Mosaic
Primary 4b enjoyed learning about the decoration found inside Roman houses and had a go at creating their own mosaic vases. To do this, the boys and girls had to create and continue 2D tiling patterns. The mosaics look excellent as everyone experimented with a combination of shapes!
French
Primary 4b enjoyed exploring the Linguascope website to play games and reinforce the language of pets. The children used this knowledge to finish off their matching board games and had time to play the game with their friends.
STEM Room
Primary 4b enjoyed visiting the STEM room to explore and play with the Sphero cars and KAPLA. The boys and girls used the various mats to programme a route for the cars to travel along. They had to use various skills such as communication, adaptability and focussing to ensure their routes worked. The boys and girls also demonstrated perseverance and resilience when using the KAPLA.
Young STEM Leaders
This afternoon the ‘Young STEM Leaders’ visited and delivered an input. They worked with the children to build model cars. They then measured the distance the cars travelled and the time it took them to travel this distance. Once the children had gathered this information they were able to use the formula S=D/T to work out the speed of each car! A tricky experiment that everyone enjoyed taking part in.
Ramadan
Thank you to Rida who carefully prepared a presentation about Ramadan to share with the class. We all thoroughly enjoyed listening to you and learning about your Faith.
Science Week
Primary 4b had a busy start to British Science Week. The focus of Science week this year is Time.
We began the day with a live lesson from Glasgow Science Centre which recapped the importance of looking after our environment, specifically the impact of plastic pollution on the seas. After break we took part in a BBC Live Lesson which taught us about the life cycle of different insects, we had to work against the clock to solve the riddles. After lunch we were visited by Dr Anwar who spoke to us about her job as a phlebotomist. Dr Anwar highlighted how important time is in her job.
This week we are also taking part in the ‘Big Plastic Count’ by counting how much plastic we use in our homes.
Roman Numerals
Today Primary 4b investigated and discussed the importance of numbers in the world and explored the number system (Roman Numerals) that were used by Romans to record numbers. They were able to identify that Roman Numerals are still used today on clock faces, books and sun dials! Everyone enjoyed working at active stations, cracking codes using the numerals and designing posters.
