Primary 4b have been working hard in their collaborative groups to design and create a new sweet treat, inspired by the work of Willy Wonka in our class novel ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Their ideas, names and slogans are listed below.

Rollilops – have created a  sauce that you pour over leftovers to turn into a delicious dessert called ‘Chocolate Pop’.

Every drop makes your leftovers pop!

Gumdrops – have created a chocolate bar with edible wrappers that give you energy called ‘Level Up’.

Take one bite and you will be super fast!

Chocolate Secrets  – have created a chocolate bar that can help you time travel called ‘Dream Come True’.

Every bite visits a new or old time.

The Chocolate Fudge Force  have created an everlasting chocolate bar called ‘The Cocoa fusion’.

The everlasting delicious chocolate bar.

Sweet Treat Creation have created a chocolate bar that makes you levitate called  ‘Galaxy Marshmallow Floats’.

Every bite lifts you up.

Primary 4 enjoyed another interesting Music input today,  they learned more about pitch and rhythm and had fun singing new songs.

On Friday afternoon, Primary 4b were learning about the needs of themselves and others  through the themes of equity and equality. Everybody was able to identify and discuss  times in school where they needed support and understood that this was perhaps different for each individual as everybody is unique. Each group were then given a scenario to act out based on the themes of equity and equality. Well done Primary 4!

Today Primary 4 enjoyed their last Forest School session and what fun they had! The boys and girls couldn’t believe the autumnal change  when they arrived at the Forest today, everyone loved jumping in the leaves. There was a quick recap of fire safety before Mrs Carwood treated everyone to a toasted marshmallow.

 

Primary 4b have enjoyed opportunities to apply their maths skills across the curriculum this week as part of Maths Week Scotland. The theme of Maths Week this year is ‘Maths in Motion’.

In PE the children looked at ways in which maths could be used to improve  performance and keep beating those personal bests.  In station one, the children were using a stopwatch to time each other running around a short circuit, this enabled them to count how many seconds were in between each person in the group and work out who had the best time. At station two, the children were using metre sticks to measure how far they could jump.

In STEM, the boys and girls had a chance to learn about the role of an astronaut and listen to a real life astronaut reading a story from Space! Mathematicians and maths are integral to space missions. From calculating trajectories to loading cargo, calculations keep everyone safe and enable humans to explore further than ever before. The children worked together to create their own rockets to launch.

Primary 4b enjoyed taking part in their weekly writing lesson. The children were using the ‘describing bubble’ to come up with a detailed description of a dog. Everyone took part in the class discussion and generated adjectives or statements about the dog. Take a look at some of our work!

In Primary 4b we have been discussing the skills needed for life and work. Everyone chose a skill to develop over the next month and displayed it on our skills wall.

We then worked together in our new collaborative groups to create a group name and design a group flag. During this activity we used skills such as focussing, communicating, adapting and leading.

Today Primary 4b took part in active stations where they explored simple 3D objects and 2D shapes. The children were able to identify, name and describe their features using appropriate vocabulary. Well done everyone!

It was another exciting trip to the Forest today for Primary 4b. The children started with a relaxing Forest bath, during which they listened to the sounds of nature. After the bath the children reported that they felt:
FRM – happy, calm & relaxed
EA – ultra relaxed
RA – calm and I liked meditating
ML – sleepy
EH – enthusiastic
DB – calm
After the relaxing forest bath the children enjoyed a fun game and then made dens with their friends! Everyone could identify a good place to make their den and demonstrated excellent communicating skills.

This week in Primary 4b we have been looking at the life and work of Quentin Blake. Quentin Blake illustrated our current class book study ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

We researched and found out interesting facts about Quentin Blake:

Quentin Blake’s first picture was published when he was sixteen – EH.

He wrote a book called ‘Patrick’ – PW.

He illustrated all of Roald Dahl’s books except one – OQ.

Quentin Blake was born on the 16th of December in London – DB.

He illustrated ‘Mr Stink’ by David Walliams – EH.

We then took an interactive tour of his studio and we were really surprised to see how messy it was!

Finally we took part in an Art lesson hosted by Quentin Blake himself. He taught us how to draw Willy Wonka.
