On Wednesday 23^rd March, a Water and Sanitation engineer came to visit P6. At the start, Mr Deverill introduced himself to us. After that he told us that he worked in some of the poorest parts of the world like Africa and Madagascar. He also told us that lots girls and some boys don’t get to go to school because they need to get water for their family. The laughs came in when he told us he worked with poo! After that we did a few activities where we were learning about personal hygiene. He taught us about how diseases can be spread and we were asked to remember the 5 F’s: Food, Fingers, Feet, Fields and Flies. We had so much fun listening and talking to him!

Mr Deverill’s visit gave us inspiration for our SESLA Awards. This week we have been designing our own  designs and writing a persuasive letter to  final year Engineering students at the University of Strathclyde. We hope some of us will be successful with our inventions!

Bloggers – Eva and Finn

On Monday 14^th March the Orchestra went to the Glasgow Music Festival. The festival was set in the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow city centre. We played against Hamilton College, the pieces they played were Joy to the World and we Will Rock You. The pieces we played were EastEnders, Star Wars, Hunter’s House (a solo that Robbie Fisher played and the orchestra accompanied him) Symphony No. 7, The Great Escape. We came 1^st place with 88 points!

On Tuesday 15^th March Netherlee’s lunch bunch went to the Glasgow Music Festival. We played against another primary school. The primary school played 2 of their own songs that there conductor had written. The Lunch Bunch played Brian Boru’s March, St Antonym Coral and Yellow Bird. We came 1^st with 88 points! All of us really enjoyed the experience and it was great fun!

On Friday the 18th of March the Primary 6’s had a visitor who was an engineer called Mr Blanco. He is a civil engineer who works for Amey and in particular he usually works on the highway . He helped us think of ideas for the SESLA contest and we are very inspired. We learned lots about him and his career and it was very interesting. We also asked questions to Mr Blanco and he answered them in detail. At the end we said a massive thank you to Mr Blanco for coming to our school.

Leeza and Arran

On the week of the 7th March we celebrated books and reading by having Brilliant Book Week. We did a whole different range of exciting activities during this week including PATTER time (Pupils And Teachers Together Everyone Reading) and on Friday dressing up as  characters from our favourite books. Some examples of our class are Hot Shot Hamish, Gansta Granny, The Boy in the Dress, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and Thing 1 and Thing 2. Here is a picture of P6c in their costumes!

All of the classes designed covers and spines for their favourite book. In every class their was a winner for the best front cover and spine. Then these winners got judged by the librarians for a the best one in each stage. Everyone had lots of fun.

Last week P6 made smoothies for the Primary 1 pupils. We were trying to raise awareness of Fairtrade products so that the Primary 1 pupils knew more about them. For example, if they were to go shopping with their family then they would spot the Fairtrade logo. We created our own recipes for smoothies  and we had a lot of fun!

We also designed posters for the P1 pupils to show them all the ingredients we had used and to learn about some fun facts on Fairtrade. We enjoyed making the posters and getting to work in our groups. We had 10 different groups. Some of the groups were: Berry blitz, Chuck em all in, Fairtrade Berry Blast, On the beach, The Strawberry and Banana Mash up and many more.

When we got to taste the lovely smoothies we were quite surprised because they were tastier than we thought!
