January Blog

We have started a new term and have been learning lots of new skills. Find out about some of these below!

Science

Adam, Olivia, Haniya, and Finlay said “We have been learning about different types of Forces.” “A force can be a push, pull or a twist on something.” “We went outside to find examples of Forces.” “The gate can be pushed or pulled.” We will soon be carrying out investigations and reporting our results.

Social studies

Emma said “Our transport topic is fun!” Mia could talk about the significant individual we have been learning about.  We have been learning about George Stephenson who was an engineer and was known as the ‘Father of the Railways’ for his work on steam engines and making train tracks.  He built the Rocket, a very fast locomotive that won a race, that made him famous.  Next we are looking at the significant individual Henry Ford so that we can investigate his influence in the car industry and then finally we will learn about the Wright brothers.

Technologies

We have been working on accessing our emails this term. “I can open an email through Outlook and then click on the link to get to the website” said Eve.  We enjoyed emailing the other Primary 2 class to ask them a question about their favourite pet so that we could then retrieve and use this information in our maths lesson.

We are being creative in our Transport topic by designing and building junk model trains. We worked cooperatively to come up with our plan and now are just gather the junk so we can get building.

Expressive Arts

Campbell, Rachael, Isaac and Arsh said “We have been developing our skills using line and colour to recreate a rose, inspired by the poem from Robert Burns “My love is like a red red rose.” We will be now by looking at the work of Charles Rennie MacIntosh to help us develop our skills further.

French

Jock, Jessica, Holly and Matthew said “We have been learning how to order food in french using the café we have set up.” “We have been getting better at asking each other questions.” and “ We play lotto to help us learn our numbers up to 20 in french.”

R.M.E

Alasdair, Sufi and Ailis said “We have been learning about different places of worship and we have looked inside a church and synagogue.” We know that people must wash their hands, face, feet and throat before entering the Mosque.

H.W.B and P.E

Rameen and Euan said “We have been practising throwing and catching using beanbags and balls.” “We have been learning how to hold a badminton racquet and hit a shuttlecock correctly.”  We have spent this term developing our control of the shuttlecock and the flow by practising hitting it to a partner.  We have been learning how to keep healthy through exercise, diet and brushing our teeth.

Achievements  We have been sharing lots of achievements in class, and are very proud of every single one! Some of these are on display on our Achievement Tree.

September P2a

In Social Studies we have been learning about the different climate zones.  We now know that there are 6 different climate zones and we can describe the typical weather patterns of each of them.  Next we will be learning about the Rainforest, which is found in the Tropical zone.

For our Art skills lesson we used our painted handprints to create trees and then using colours we showed the 4 different seasons of the year.  We will continue to develop our skills using paint and other media.

In ICT we have been learning the correct parts of the computer and have created our own pictures using a software programme to draw the computer and label the parts.  We will be using Code.org to practise dragging and giving directions/instructions to Angry Birds.

In Science, we have been learning about different materials.  As part of our Outdoor Learning we did a materials hunt to identify what things are made of.  We will be also looking at materials which are water proof and those that are man- made or natural.

We worked together to create out Class Charter, which looks at our rights and how we can respect each other and be kind to one another when we are at school.

In PE we are learning all about staying healthy by jumping, running and playing games.  All of these activities are helping us to maintain or improve our fitness levels.  Throughout the week we use Go Noodle in class to stay active.  We will be learning about the importance of tooth brushing and healthy eating.

In R.M.E we will be learning about the Christian festival Harvest.

In French we are learning how to count to 20 and to talk about ourselves.  We will be learning how to say different foods in French.

Literacy and Numeracy

Our learning in these areas will draw upon the contexts listed above but will differ according to the needs of each group. Your support with consolidation of core learning through homework activities will be very beneficial to our children.

Achievements

Some of us are being fit outside of school as well with achievements in running a mile for The Wee Nessie Run or walking 10km with WAG.  Many of us take part in healthy clubs, such as gymnastics, ballet, football, athletics, basketball, netball, tennis and swimming.  We love to keep fit!

Article 28: You have the right to education.

Marvellous March

We have been ‘Marvellous March Achievers’ and have been learning to swim without armbands and ride our bikes without stabilisers.

We are so talented and acquiring new skills like designing new clothes and playing the piano. We are so good at practising our reading by reading to little sisters and brothers.

Be very proud of yourself – well done

A great start to 2017

We took part in ‘Big Garden Birdwatch.’ We made bird food by mixing lard and seeds and put on pine cones. We also put cheerios on string and hung the food on the trees and fence in our playground.

For our Winter walk and Birdwatch we went to Eastwood Park. We took tally marks of the birds we saw. We saw a magpie in its nest, heard the robin and counted thirteen seagulls, blackbirds and three squirrels twirling round the tree.

On our way back to school we stopped at the Electricity generators and heard the humming noise. We have been learning about keeping safe when using electricity.

Autumn fun in Primary 1

October has been a busy time in P1, we have been learning about Autumn. We made clay hedgehogs and used straws for the spikes. We mixed paints to make lovely Autumn colours and painted a tree using a brush. To paint the leaves we used our fingers to print different colours of leaves. They are very colourful.

On our walk to Eastwood Park, we looked for signs of Autumn and found leaves, conkers, acorns and even saw a squirrel.

As part of ‘Authors live’ we listened to a story about Slippery Sam and learned how to draw Sam.

As part of our Numeracy we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We went on a shape hunt to find the different shapes outside. We also brought 3D boxes in and made different models. They were ‘fabulous, fantastic, super and amazing,’ said the children from P1!
