Scotland V Czech Republic Week

We enjoyed watching the Scotland Vs Czech republic on Monday and we are supporting Scotland and Poland..and have begun researching all things to do with Scotland and Poland which has been fun – like player stats and food from that country – then we created the bunting with the facts and pictures.

We have continued to complete our Bamboo drawings but using charcoal this time to create the effect of light and dark shading. Don’t you think they’re good?

Been busy this week being …..ENGINEERS…. – we had a go last week without the full class which was difficult but we got a chance to do it again this week and WOW – brilliant bridges!! After looking at some of the most famous bridges and their structures and shapes of the world, we created our own and it was a competition to see who’s would be the strongest to withstand the weight of 100g – 1kg. It was very fun placing the weights on each bridge and they were all great but there was onem where the team had created a very strong structure both in its base and height to withstand the 1kg! Great team work across the class!

The next challenge was to build a structure for height and stability – We first looked at the tallest buildings from 1900s to the current day which was pretty interesting. Our challenge was to create the tallest structure that would remain steady at the end. It was a challenge with the spaghetti!

A great week of team work!

This week is only 4 days long because there’s going to be May holiday starting on Friday and ending on Monday. This week most of us

In PE we had a second attempt at long jump and scored some goals with footballs from twenty meters distance. I was very pleased with my distance of 1 meter 46 centimetres. This is for an S1 transition competition that all P7 classes in the local schools are doing too.

Jumping over small hurdles – two foot jumping.

Marvellous May

It hasn’t been quite so marvellous with the weather so far this May, however in school we are having a marvellous time learning Mandarin, working with Charcoal in art, play scripts and creative writing and learning about the Global impact that transport and travel have on the environment and of course our hard work in maths.

Here are some lovely photos of the groups together having designed their front cover of their journey books and having spent the lesson researching and collating the data to demonstrate the amount of co2 emissions that various methods of transport emit into our air.

Great team work guys!

Back to school

Welcome back to all Primary 7/6!!

It is so good to be back at school again with the class and hopefully we are now on the road to normality and more routine.

The children have been brilliant on their return to school after what has been, a difficult time for everyone through the winter.

Sunnier days lie ahead now and better times for us all.

We have been straight back into learning together and everyone has done so well at trying hard to concentrate and complete work when they have been so used to learning at home.

Here are some of the lovely pieces of artwork that P&/6 have been working on recently using watercolours and mixed materials, charcoal mark making and some of our fun treasure map challenge which was linked with Angle and compass work in maths.

The children enjoyed swapping their maps with a partner and following the compass directions and angle turns to find their treasure!   ( A chocolate bunny!)

Christmas Party

Well, it has come to the last week of Term 1..where did the time go? !

This week the children have had a fun week of Christmas maths, making Christmas cards for their Primary 1 Buddies or family members and their Christmas Party. This year was a little different..parties were in our classrooms but were no less fun.

They had a challenge of creating a Christmas tree and making it light up, using electricity circuit boards. Great team efforts!

Health and Well being Week

Apologies for not getting these photos out sooner, however technology does try us at times!!!

Collaborative writing using suspense and tension.

Brilliant Bonfire Night Poetry and Onomatopoeia.

Great Hockey this week!

This week I was very proud of my story called ‘Hope’ I really enjoyed this activity because I got to continue the story starter and I could let my imagination go wild! My story was about a poor old man who lost his wife called Lily and was hoping to see his wife again. He had a beautiful flower and every time he held it close, the closer he was to being a flower. I am really proud of my work and I hope I get to make something like this again –

Remembrance Day Poetry and Creativity

My Remberance poem:)

My poem is about poppie’s and why we wear them. I am very proud of my poem, because my handwriting is very neat, and the words rhyme properly.

on remembrance day we were doing poetry. we were all to make a poem and we also listened to In Flanders fields poem to get ideas. i really like my poem and i’m very proud of it.

Creativity Task was to follow the instructions to make a Pop up Card during Flexi Friday. Lily and Yusra managed successfully to make the birds!

Autumn Term

Since October break, we have started some new topics like hockey in P.E. Energy in science and Christianity in R.M.E. We have also have been doing suspenseful writing and we hope we can show you what amazing work our pupils have done. by Caleb.

I really enjoyed my writing because it was fun to come up with the gripping ideas and words. So the readers can picture them in the moment in the story. By Eilidh.

I am very proud of the writing I did and I found it tricky because I am not used to suspense writing and more used to making my writing funny instead. However I think that this suspense story is my best yet!  By Ruaridh.

I am very proud of my maths and I think I have got quite far with help form my teachers input. My answers when  adding and subtracting mixed fractions were all correct and next time I just should make sure I simplify my answers. By Caleb.

When I found we were making science paper spinners, I was very excited. You had to hold the ends of the two ropes, spin it and then pull it to let it unravel. I found it quite hard to make the paper turner. By Lily

I enjoyed making this hat and it was quite easy to make, all it took was tape and black paper. It fits my head perfectly and took no time at all. All you needed to do was cut an A4 sheet of paper into a circle then cut another piece into a long rectangle then a circular shape on the top. This was an creativity art activity on Flexi Friday. By Lucas.

In Science we started learning about What is Energy? We had lots of fun making a paper helicopter and we learned that the kind of energy involved in this is kinetic energy. When we hold the helicopter in the air and when we dropped it, it released stored energy which is called potential energy. By Megan.

It was really cool how it spun around as it fell to the ground.  I think I was really interested in this energy topic. I learned about stored energy and potential energy.  I have been watching The Flash and I now know that when he got struck by lightening, his energy increased so much that he can run at the speed of mock 8.3.

By Elliott.

After making the paper helicopters, we then had to make a spinning disc completely on our own following the instructions.  When we spun it it had stored energy and then when it untwisted it created kinetic energy. I really enjoyed this as we had to make it ourselves and it was tricky but it worked well in the end. I had to change the size of the string so that it would work. It was fun and Mrs Thomas said that ours were great as we took time to make them and coloured them in too.

Here are some of our current wall displays that show the art we have been doing. The New York skyline was done with watercolours and mixing to get different shades of purple, then we added glitter for atmosphere.

Native American Indian Head Dress and Dream Catchers

Another watercolour project using watercolours to create head dress and dream catchers of the Native American Indians. Here is a selection of our work.

Rowan has been working very hard in completing his wonderful Native American Head dress. A very proud boy! A very proud teacher. Well done Rowan!

In RME and HWB we have been learning about forgiveness and we had fun acting out some scenarios through drama in order to see how we could react to different situations.  Here are a few photos showing the scenes.
