P7 Winter Stories

Today we were putting our team work and writing skills to the test. We were having to write a story with a theme of winter or Christmas. The children had to think about the setting and characters that would be in their story. This was extended to designing the backdrop for their stories and making their characters using Play – Doh. In the next coming days the children will use stop start motion to make their stories come to life.

Make Busby Shine Bright

Make Busby Shine Bright!

Each child has designed a lantern in class to spread a little winter magic in the community.

We thought we would celebrate the community spirit that continues to grow by making Busby light up with our lanterns.

At 4 pm on Saturday 12th December when it becomes dark, we invite you all to place your lanterns onto a windowsill in your home and illuminate them using the glow sticks that we have given the children. You could also use fairy lights or led candles. Please do not use lit candles!

Why not take a walk through Busby to spot some lanterns. You can share your photos on the school Twitter feed using

Measuring Madness

During Flexible Friday the children decided to measure one another to calculate their height. They used metre sticks and they then compared it to the national average height for their age. Well done for finding maths used in everyday life P7!

Poppy Scotland

Well done to the children in Icosahedrons for putting their knowledge of everyday maths to the test today. We were looking at cheques and why they are used, the importance of them and how to use a cheque as well. We used this knowledge to write a cheque to Poppy Scotland. Busby Primary School raised £180 for the charity.
Well done!

Collaborative Writing

The children have been working so hard on building suspense in their stories by incorporating similes, metaphors, short sentences and ellipsis.

Today – they were challenged to work collaboratively to write a story. They listened to music, looking at images of setting and looked at story starters to get their creativity flowing.

The level of work produced was absolutely fantastic and they were able to peer assess another groups writing afterwards too. This shows their level of understanding on how to build suspense in a story.

Circle Art

Today we were using compasses to produce circle art. We were overlapping circle and using different colours to fill in the blank space. The compasses were definitely challenging to us.

Well done for working hard P7!

Energy Transfer

In science today we were learning that potential energy transfers into kinetic energy. This is released as they fall to produce kinetic energy. The kinetic energy is greatest as the balls strike the ground as they no longer have potential energy.

How long will it take the ice to melt?

In P7, we were learning about sunlight and the type of energy it transforms into when it reaches the Earth. We know that all living things need energy to survive and that plants store and use energy from sunlight. This energy is passed to animals by eating plants (or eating animals that eat plants). We also learnt that fossil fuels contain stored energy from sunlight, and are our main source of electricity.

During our experiment, we predicted what ice cube would melt the quickest. Then we justified our reason why.
