STEAM week

This week, P6/5 had many fun opportunities and visitors based around STEAM week.

P5 took part in a paper chromatography experiment. They made a prediction about what they would happen and r corded their results. Within this experiment, the children could see what components were most soluble within ink from a sharpie and felt tip pen, food colouring and the dye from a skittle.

P6 had a fun and exciting trip to Edinburgh. They visited Dynamic Earth and enjoyed touching a real iceberg, travelling through a time machine which crash landed at a volcano and enjoyed entering a spaceship which took them to space.

The children researched facts about the Channel Tunnel and have designed a board game to share the interesting facts that they found out.

STEAM visitor

Today P5 had visitors from the NHS. They told us about their job and how they use engineering by creating and designing wheelchairs and prosthetics.

We looked at the different types of prosthetics and we were able to measure each other to see the size of wheelchair  we could fit into. We also saw a beanbag that was used to customise wheelchairs and some of us managed to use the wheelchair.

Our day

What we enjoyed today:

‘I enjoyed coding using scratch.’  Ana

British Red Cross

Primary 6/5 and Primary 6 had a visit from The British Red Cross. They discussed the skills required to work at The British Red Cross and explained the different types of roles involved within their charity. We discussed what to do in an emergency and Mark demonstrated the steps that we should take if we found someone unconscious.

Scottish Literature Week

Scottish Literature week launched today. We arrived into class this morning and discovered a tartan box. Inside the box, we found a variety of Scottish items. We were excited to read some stories from ‘The Broons’. In pairs, we noted down Scottish words and their meanings. We then decided to create our own stories based on ‘The Broons’ with Scottish language being our focus. We will post some of our stories in a few days.

P1-3 Nativity

We were invited along to see P1-3 nativity rehearsal this morning. This was the first time they had performed in front of an audience and we were a fantastic audience! We really enjoyed the show and cannot wait to see the dress rehearsal on Tuesday.
