Maths Week- Designing Games

Harris, Mekhi and Aritro designed a car park game. Each parking space has an amount on it. They roll the dice and land on a space then roll the dice again and land on another square.  Then they have to add or take away to find the total or the difference between the prices.

Sahitya and Jaida have designed a Snakes and Ladders game. They enjoyed working together. It was challenging because they had to include lots of information.

James, Caleb and Azaan made a game called Lava and Snakes. If you go in the lava you are dead. Also snakes can kill you. There is a King and a Queen of the land who live in a volcano. The snakes can throw bombs and there is an escape door.

Holly and Olivia designed a Halloween game called witches and brooms. If you land on a broom you go up the way and if you land on a witch you go down the way.

Emma and Soha have designed a Beat the Street game. 4 or 5 people can play it. You get a counter and roll the dice and where you land you write down how many points you have collected. The winner is the person with the most points.

Peter, Elise and Ailsa made a game called Animal Valley. You need to get to the finish. The squares have animals on them and if you land on them you need to act like the animal.

Chloe, Harry and Olivia designed a game called Underwater Snakes. It’s all about fish and snakes underwater. If you land on a fish nothing happens but if you land on a snake you go down. If you get to 73 you win.

Pyramids are learning about Tiling

We have started to learn about Tiling. We have lots of tiles in our houses on the floors and the walls.

Holly made a tiling which had no spaces. She knows that squares and right angled triangles make good tilings.

Harry and Peter used big triangles to make a tiling. They said it was really hard to make sure there were no spaces.

Olivia used parallelograms to make her tiling.

Jaida used green diamonds and squares to make her tiling.

Emma made a house with the tiles.

Science- Sorting Materials

We had to sort out different materials- wood, metal, plastic and glass.

We have been thinking about what different things are made of.

Wood- window frames, matches, rolling pins, benches, paint brushes, doors.

Metal- tools, keys, scissors, screws, tins

Plastic- cups, knife handle, baskets, straws

Glass- door, windows, glasses

Rights Respecting Schools- Class Charter

When we made our bumble bees for the class charter we were thinking about all the things that we should try to do to be the best we can. We thought of being respectful, helpful, kind, sensible and responsible.

We linked our thoughts to Busby Primary’s Code of Conduct : Let Others Learn, Make Safe Choices, Kind and Caring, Polite and Good Manners and Try our Best.

We have been learning about Children’s Rights and know that we have the right to make decisions and give our opinions. Also that we have the right to an education, to rest and play and to get looked after properly.

Elise says that the bumble bees are pretty. Sahitya says that there are lots of nice words on the bees. Chloe says that the bees are nice and colourful and the words are very nice. Harris liked making his bumble bee.

Our class charter

We made a class charter which has lots of bees near a honey pot. We decorated the bees and wrote messages on the stripes like Be Responsible, Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Thoughtful…..

Ailsa loved making a bumble bee because they are so colourful and cheerful. They bring joy to my eyes.

Olivia says it is important to be the best you can.
