We have had a wonderful and slightly messy afternoon creating ice cream art using ‘puffy paint’ (paint mixed with shaving foam). I’m sure you’ll agree the results look good enough to eat! We are now even more excited for our visit from the ice cream van tomorrow!
We have been learning about money recently and our shop has been a big hit this week! We have been learning to count out amounts and give change accurately.
P1b have loved planting seeds recently! Following our tasting session, we planted peas, radishes, lettuce and beetroot in planting cups. We water them regularly and love monitoring their progress – some are nearly ready to be transferred outdoors into our planters.
We also planted some wheat that we were kindly sent from the Royal Highland Educational Trust. There are no signs of growth yet but we are watching and waiting patiently!
On Friday, the boys and girls tried a selection of vegetables that we are going to grow. Spinach was a surprising hit, as was radish! Most of us enjoyed lettuce and peas but beetroot was an acquired taste!
We are looking forward to planting some seeds this week and tasting our own veg as it grows.
Our newly updated outside area – with climbing frame – was a huge hit last week. We were even lucky enough to get some sunshine! We are all looking forward to developing it further in the next few weeks and we hope to get outside regularly to make the most of it!
P1b have been working hard on our play skills this week. Every day after lunch we have been working with a new ‘play partner’ to develop our skills of negotiation, teamwork and discussion. We have loved being able to explore new areas of the classroom and work with different people.
We have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about Katie Morag over the last couple of weeks! We began by listening to lots of the stories by Mairi Hedderwick and discussing the differences between island life and life in Glasgow. Our post office role play, inspired by ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’ was a big hit – many thanks for the donations of envelopes and stamps. Miss Roberts helped us to create an amazing display of the Isle of Struay and we have done some fabulous writing describing Katie Morag. We are still working on writing letters to her. We’ll need to wait and see if we get a reply…
This week we were very excited to start our new Katie Morag topic. First we read “Katie Morag delivers the Mail” and then we decided to create a post office in the classroom!
We have loved painting our very own post box today and we can’t wait to finish the set up and get using the post office next week.
We had a wonderful first day back at school yesterday – we were all so happy to see each other again! We built Lego, we read books, we played in the home corner, we did crafts and we loved our new sand and water tray! We also did some Literacy and Maths and we started learning about Fairtrade products as part of ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’. But the highlight of the day was visiting our lovely new outside space – we had so much fun exploring our new playground in the sunshine!
